Not Stock: 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra

Collector cars in slightly less than showroom condition seem like the best value going, as you’re still buying a vehicle with a reasonable shot at appreciating while not having to fork over mountains of cash for a time-capsule example (that you can’t drive.) The Fox-body Ford Mustang Cobra seems to be the collector car of the moment, with more and more of them coming out of the woodwork each week – and seemingly finding new homes without too much trouble. This black example is listed here on eBay with just under 70,000 miles and a few subtle performance modifications installed. Bidding is at $22,100 with the reserve unmet.

The seller notes the only reason he is selling this Cobra is because he’s always wanted a red one, and he finally got one. Personally, black would be my preferred color between the two just given how frequently we see red examples. Of course, that sharp turquoise blue is my absolute go-to on a Cobra of this vintage, but those seem to pop up far less frequently. The seller notes the sharp paint on this Cobra can be attributed to a respray performed prior to the current owner’s tenure, which covers the last five years. According to the listing, it was well done, with all VIN tags preserved and just some minor touch-ups performed since then.

The interior is in excellent condition, especially for a car with this sort of mileage. The gray leather seats present very well, and the same goes for the factory floor mats. The map pockets are just starting to sag, and it won’t be long now before they’re spilling their guts every time the door opens. The seller does note there is wear to the leather that’s not easily captured in photos, and that he would rate the cabin as an 8/10 overall. The A/C works, and the same goes for the CD player and power features like the windows. The original factory armrest and center console were swapped out for a different OEM part with cupholders, but the original is included.

The Mustang does have an aftermarket exhaust and cold air intake, as seen in this engine bay photo. The listing describes some additional modifications that have since been removed. These include AFR aluminum heads, aftermarket cam, and a Holley Systemax intake. The top end kit was removed so as to return the Cobra back to mostly stock condition, with some parts obviously left installed. The seller is willing to offer the AFR heads up for a separate price should the next owner wish to inject the Cobra with some added performance. Overall, a clean example of a Fox body Cobra that isn’t so nice it has to kept under lock and key, so you can actually drive this one without feeling guilty about it.

Are these really worth the premium over a standard Fox body 5.0?
What are the differences, other than the cool name?
