There might be more than what meets the eye to this 1968 Chevelle SS 396. The automotive enthusiast selling it says it is a numbers matching car. He bought it in 2013 and has documented work done to it. Currently, it resides in White Haven, Pennsylvania, has a VIN and 100,715 miles listed, as well as a clear title. The seller lists in detail the mechanical components of the car. It has a 396 cubic inch V8, producing 350 horsepower. That is connected to a 4-speed Muncie manual transmission with 3.55 gears and a 12-bolt positraction rear end. According to the seller, it is 1 of only 9,630 manual cars ever built. Beyond that, the car has no other creature comforts. Manual steering and brakes, steel wheels, and no AC are on the car.
Inside, the black bucket seats are torn and there is no rear shelf. The horn button and sun visors are missing. A rear view mirror from a ’68 LeMans clings to the windshield, a replacement for the lost original. The dash has a tachometer, which was a rare 1968 only option, this one part of rally gauges. When you open the trunk, you are greeted with rust and a huge hole. The car will need a complete restoration inside.
What the car might lack or need assistance with, the seller certainly provides plenty of information. Each photo has a description in the listing, and the seller introduces himself, has a brief bio, and provides methods of contact in order to ask any questions. He even provides a video showing the car running. This seller and vehicle just might be your ticket to restoring a wonderful automobile.
Like to have this one if I could. Love the 68 69s. I would do a complete restore on the interior do a Slick paint job of a color of my choice and drive and enjoy it!
The ad is unreadable. It’s too long and in all capitals.
The seller glosses over issues with the car, such as the fitment of the replacement panel between the trunk opening and the rear window. He doesn’t even bother to take pictures of the floors, wheel wells, rockers and quarter panels, even though as a “trained restoration tech” he would know those areas will be of concern to any potential buyers. I’d be surprised if there isn’t some significant rust not shown or mentioned in the ad.

Trained restoration tech. Yea Steve met one of these once. was looking at a falcon convertible that the guy said was solid. It was so bad that they had welded square tubing into attach the front and rear halves, and this guy claimed to be in the resto business. Buyer beware and needs a thourough inspection by someone credible. That panel between the trunk and the rear window must be installed rightGood luck to the new owner,. could be a screamer.

Great car I love the 69 chevelle but with just the motor done there is a ton of work yet to do!! I can see pay $25-$30 grand on something like this when you can get one done for a little more money!! I’m sure it’s got a stupid high reserve on it!!!
