Oddball Buggy: Berry Mini T4

00R0R_gK1PO7VtNP1_600x450

Dune buggies are all relatively odd, so to be the oddest buggy around is no small feat, but this 1963 Berry Mini T4 buggy is definitely a contender for the title! Listed on craigslist in Atlanta, Georgia and priced at $3,500. Berry Fiberglass of Long Beach, California had a two year production run of the Mini T4 from 1969-1970. This example is on a 1963 VW pan and was found parked in a basement where this Mini T4 sat for many years.

This T4 is sitting on a nice set of wheels and three of the tires appear to be holding some air.  The top looks to be in order.

The body looks good and you will need to air up that left rear tire. We don’t know the history of ownership, when the kit was finished or the mileage. The owner claims it was running driving when it was parked.

The motor, as per the owner, does turn freely but he hasn’t tried to crank it.

Floor pan/s needed

We don’t know if it’s worth it to save this pan when you see how much is missing. It will need to be checked out closer to determine if it’s worth saving. This maybe a case that the body, wheels and maybe the engine are the only items of value? The owner is including a set of bucket seats and a rear seat that will need to be restored. If you have something to trade, you might be able to make a good deal. The possible trades he is interested in are listed with the ad. This Buggy will be sold with a bill of sale. If you like the body and the mags, this project might be for you! But what do you think?

Cheers,

Robert

I was always obsessing over VW based buggies when I was young, actually kit cars in general, but somehow managed to never own one. I would still really like to have one so I guess it’s on my bucket list. If you want a particular type of car, these days you can probably find it in kit form and the donor list has broadened considerably. This one would make a great beach cruiser or something just to tool around in.

I had a dune buggy in 1974, metalflake green, Corvair powered and an absolute blast to drive. Had slicks on the back, nearly killed me once in the rain, but I did a 360 and recovered. Think I’ll post a photo and see if anyone knows what kit it was built from.

Anybody interested, truly interested, I am about 30 mins away and would be more than happy to do a “look over”. These things are pretty basic, especially with VW power. If anybody out there knows of specifics that would need to look, feel free to throw in. Just reply to this post with a way to get in touch with you and I will get back with you.

the good part is that the floorpan is full lenght not cut, the bad part is that it needs a new one. interesting find.

Is this vehicle still available? Any more photos of the interior? Any other original pieces or parts to it? When’s the last time that motor ran? Does it have its serial numbers?
