One Amazing Man’s Prize: 1961 Ford Falcon

front left

Many of you are perhaps too young to remember the old TV show, “This is Your Life”. They had all sorts of well known people on and told the story of their life and surprised them with guests who were important people from their lives. This 1961 Falcon was given to Benny Hochman when he was on the show. He was a holocaust survivor well know for his incredible story. He wrote a book and gave talks around the country. One article can be found here. Mr. Hochman used the Falcon for his daily driver for years and passed it on to his children. After his death the car was stored. It’s for sale now by a dealer in Maine. This Falcon is a very original car with 89,000 miles. The interior was redone at some point. There are a few signs showing it’s been touched up, like a bit of overspray on the radiator support and the white painted valve stems indicate the wheels have been painted. Otherwise, this old Falcon looks just like it would have in the 1960s. It’s listed here on Hemmings for $4,995. History aside, this old Falcon could be a nice driver to have around. Perhaps the buyer will share the story of the original owner. Special thanks to Charles H for this find!

This is a Kansas City-built ’61, with the base 144 cubic-inch six. It does have the deluxe exterior trim package, though. So you won’t go very fast, but you will look good!

Claycomo, MO, please. I remember a 7th grade trip to the factory to watch these being made. Later I owned it’s two-door cousin. 144 six, 3 speed, with a heater. Nothing else. It didn’t even have a radio. We drove it nearly 300,000 miles. We gave it a rebuilt motor from Montgomery Wards at about 200k. It made it to the top of Pike’s Peak several times. Crossing Kansas in July in one of these was a real test. Great little cars and just about anything made for the original Mustang will fit perfectly in a Falcon. I’d buy it in a heartbeat if I could.

Nice car! It would make an excellent 1st car for my daughter, too bad she hasn’t saved up enough money. And what’s with the snow? Its July, when the heck was this picture taken?

Perhaps it’s been on the market for a while… Or maybe the dealer is just lazy?

no underbody photos so a PI looking for rust is a must. if no rust this would be a great driver. this is just the way i like them, 6cyl/3 on the tree and not much else. the seller has a lot of interesting vehicles on their website. but the history of this car and who owned it might be the key here. great find

My first new car was just like this one except it was a 2 door with the 144 6cyl and Fordomatic. Traded it on a 63 Futura sport coupe in 63.

Nice old Falcon, but the car is really secondary to the story of the fella who owned it, if you haven’t aleady take a few minutes and read his story of survival in the death camps during the second world war, amazing story !!!!
