One Fender Short: 1963 Buick Riviera

riviera

If it weren’t for the caved-in driver’s side rear fender, this would be even more attractive! This 1963 Riviera is located in Rockwall, Texas, and is offered here on eBay for a buy-it-now of $1,900 or bids currently at $850 with a reserve. The seller evidently doesn’t know a lot about this particular car, although a second Riviera in the background hints at model expertise at least. We’re told that the car does not have any keys, and is “totally sun baked and will need a complete restoration.” The seller also notes that the windshield is cracked and the driver’s side glass is either broken or missing. They also say that there’s some rust in the floor pans and around the corners of the rear window. I like the looks of the Buick rallye wheels, although they may have too much corrosion to be show ready. With the car having been stored in the Arizona sun, I suspect the interior will have to be completely gone through, and the pictures certainly show that.

quarter

A little searching found this quarter panel online, though, and I’m thinking an afternoon with a plasma cutter and a day with a welder and grinder and you’d be good to go. I also noticed the AC underhood, so even if you wanted to convert to R-134, the vents and interior components would be there to do so. I think this would be a fun project–what about you?

Don’t know about “fun,” but it sure would be a project!

The seller’s description is enough to send me scurrying…what isn’t rusted or bent seems to have been chewed. And it has a salvage title which, in my experience, you don’t get from a cracked windshield.

Best to leave this to someone with more skill, time and money than common sense. It’s not that rare….

    Fun? Maybe. Fiscally ruinous? Definitely.

    +1 for Booya
+1 for RayT, I don’t think I could fool with a salvage title unless I just needed some parts off it…

I don’t think the salvage title is such a big deal, it is a classic car! but looks a little to far gone to do a restoration on it. :\
