One Of 1,861: 1963 Chrysler 300 Convertible

Barn Finds reader Charles H. sent us this fantastic Mopar convertible find from Portland, Oregon. It’s for sale here on eBay, and as I write this it’s at $7,500 with no reserve. Bidding has been heavy, though, and after you look over the more than 100 spectacular pictures I can see why.

Only 1,861 of these “300” convertible commemorative Indy pace car replicas were made in 1963. The package was known as the “Pace Setter”, and they featured a special set of options including an alabaster white interior and bucket seats as well as a host of power features. While the top shows a little bit of wear, it’s certainly very serviceable for a weekend driver. I have to admit, though, the first thing I’d change is the wheels; if you want something flashy a set of wire wheels would look nice, but I’d be perfectly happy with the original steel wheels and hubcaps.

The seller is saying that this is the original interior, and with the car stated as having only 77,000 miles, it’s possible that it is. But it sure does look nice to be over 50 years old! The crossed flags on the center armrest are original and were only fitted to Pace Setters.

Under the hood, some detailing might be in order, but we find the original 383 V-8 intact and running. I really don’t see any downside to this car, especially at the price it’s at now (I can dream, can’t I?)  I found some similar Pace Setters that have been auctioned in the last few years for just over $25k, so this really is a bargain at the current bid.

As my wife said a few minutes ago looking over my shoulder, I’m lucky this is in Portland rather than North Carolina; if it were closer, I’d want to win the bid and drive it home (after changing out the wheels and tires!) How about you?

    Boy I like that a lot. And I,m bringing a car to Oregon nextweek. Hows to say on my return to Washington that might bee on my trailer. Time to bid!!!!

    Nice Mopar.

    I’m guessing they will pull this offer if it does not get close to what they need out of it. That seems to be the game with most Ebay car sellers that offer nice cars that don’t carry a reserve.

    No matter for me. I would never be interested in a car of this type, but still a nice car.

    Never seen one of these. Interesting version for a pace car, and 300 convertible to boot.

    Bidding up to $11K, so looks like it will finding a new home!

    I,m Bidding And had to up the bid twice. Don’t think I want to go much higher since I will have to sell my 68 corvette. I,v had a few coronets and polaras. They are big, but at shows they really draw attn. This one is so unique and original and nice. That’s what gets me.And if it goes for not much more,thats not a bad price. Even if I don’t get it When I go to Oregon I would like to see it in person

    What Lee said….the original pace cars had larger letters on the doors….again a mopar not everyone is after…think we need or should have more documentation….the trim/fender tag should have some info on it…..

    Looks like the car that was going to Oregon is going to sell local.And I,ve quit bidding on this car. price to high for me.I,m not rich. but how fun to take a car to someone and make a profit. And than bring something like this back home on the trailer. I have a nice pretty much rust free no engine or trans .$1800 orig. red paint 318/904 posi car. Great winter project

    Odd, some pics of the center console have the crossed flags and some do not . Hmmm…….

      The flags were not there from the factory.

      They belong on the right side fender.

      I had one of these back in the ’80s.

      It was quite rusted but ran well. I didn’t have all the lettering but it was a real Pace Setter.
