One Owner: 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition

This Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition is a one-owner vehicle that is in really nice original condition. It is solid and rust-free and could be a great option for the person on the hunt for a 1970s classic. It is located in Cleveland, Ohio, and is listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding on the Trans Am has now reached $17,800, and with the reserve now met, this survivor is ready to head to a new home.

Being a 10th Anniversary Edition, the Trans Am is finished in Platinum Silver and features the mirrored T-Top. The paint and steel are all said to be original, with the body never having undergone any repairs. It appears to be free of rust, and the photos of the vehicle’s underside look remarkably clean. The Pontiac has always been garage kept and has never seen bad weather. This would go a long way to explaining the overall condition of the vehicle. The decals have also survived really well, while those attractive “turbo” wheels appear to be in great condition.

The 10th Anniversary Trans Am brought together some nice equipment and trim inside the car. The seats are upholstered in Silver Leather, and they look to be in good condition. Also distinctive and unique to the 10th Anniversary Edition are the embroidered “Screaming Chickens” on the door trims and on the back of the rear seat, along with an engine-turned shifter surround which matches the one around the gauges. The only flaw that the owner identifies is the fact that the headliner is sagging slightly above the rear seats. Otherwise, it just looks extremely clean and tidy. I am struck by the originality of the interior, and features such as the air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power trunk release, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and the original AC Delco radio/8-track player with seek function.

Depending on which part of the country you were in, you could either find your 10th Anniversary fitted with the 400ci Pontiac engine, or the 403ci Oldsmobile unit. You get the latter with this car, producing 185hp. This engine brought with it no option but the venerable 3-speed automatic transmission. The good news here is that the Pontiac is a numbers-matching car, and also features power steering and 4-wheel power disc brakes. Even better is the fact that the car has only covered a claimed 53,800 genuine miles. The owner doesn’t mention whether they hold any documentary evidence to back this claim, but they do say that the car has recently undergone a bit of maintenance work. Apart from all of the usual servicing requirements, the car has also been the recipient of all new brakes, including the calipers. It is said to run and drive extremely well.

As a survivor, this Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition looks like a really nice car. It is not a particularly rare car, with Pontiac producing 5,683 cars equipped with the 403 engine. However, its claim to fame is that it appears to be a well maintained and completely original survivor. The majority of those that remain on our roads today have undergone at least some form of restoration or repair work at some point, so this car is a bit unusual in that respect. It is also a car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately, which is a concept that I’m quite partial to.

Very nice and definitely an original treasure.
I am a four speed guy but could live with a automatic in this case😏
    It’s amazing on a 401=185 ponies .
It baffles my mind in such low output but those were the 79 years where odd designs and pollution devices ruined cars with lack of design or care. Now we have good devices working in concert to help cut pollution and six bangers approaching mid to upper 300 ponies.

I like the color and design and miss those Pontiac tv and movie 🎥 drivers / actors with the bandit and Rockford living on forever in my mind. 😇👍😂

Odd seeing digital display radio with 8 track. Like if a flip phone had a dial on it. There are smart phone apps if you want to literally dial a number. lol

That motor kills it for me, pure JUNK, in capital letters, like driving a Delta 88, at least the Pontiac is a good head F—k

I’ve never been a fan of the Firebird styling after 1973, but the silver leather on these alway made it difficult to not like the car!
