This 1959 Chevrolet Corvette was reportedly purchased new in Southern California where it remained with the first owner for nearly sixty years. I’m not sure if this fits the true definition of “survivor” but no one can argue the fact that the body is a true survivor. It can be found here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $67,500. The engine is numbers-matching and was recently rebuilt. Measuring 283 cubic inches, it features dual quad carbureators and a four speed manual transmission.
The interior is described as “new” but the ad says the original carpet, door panels, and steering wheel are included in the trunk. I’m wondering if the owner didn’t take care of the interior or if it sat un-running for quite a while?
Here you can see a little bit of wear on the original paint. Both tops of the fenders are showing patina and the rest of the paint shows quite a bit of crazing and spider-web cracks. Overall, this is a great looking car and with the fresh engine and interior will probably be a great driver. Would you leave it as-is or restore it? As they say, “It’s only original once.”
Too nice of a car not to put a good paint job on. Corvettes are made to shine.
Good looking car, pricey but good looking. Unsure about repainting but that could come later if desired.
Nice looking car I would leave as is except I would replace the 67 valve covers with an original set

The original steering wheel is in the trunk. I think it would have had staggered valve cover holes .
Does the diameter of the steering wheel look small or is it just me?
It looks small to me too and the rim looks like it’s covered in maybe leather? It looks too big to me.
That steering wheel is not original, the diameter is wrong as well as the thickness of the wheel itself.

A “survivor” my butt. It’s a nice car, with huge potential, that has had the front rechromed and the interior replaced (including replacement steering wheel, altho the original stuff is in the trunk) but NOT A SURVIVOR. Don’t call it what it’s not.
One owner until 2018 and how many after that? What about documentation? If it’s there I would think the seller would be proud of it.
Buy it for $50k, do $10k+ paint, throw in another $5k for “dammits” and you’ll have a nice car and wont be underwater.
