Scary Fun: 1927 Ford Speedster

1927 Ford Model T Speedster

Driving my Blakely Hawk around, I get lots of comments on how crazy or courageous I must be to drive it in traffic, but after seeing this old Model T Speedster I’ve decided I’m not the craziest person in the room! The seller of this period built racer has actually put it through its paces at the Hot Rod Hill Climb and having driven on the roads around Georgetown, Colorado I can attest to how much courage it would take to fling this old car around the mountain curves with modern traffic zooming by! If you think this thing looks like fun, you can find it here on eBay in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Hill Climbing Model T

The Hot Rod Hill Climb really looks like a great time. The roads heading up Leavenworth Mountain are quite intense, with some incredible scenery as well! When I think about the old timers that raced up the old dirt logging I can’t help but think we’ve grown incredibly soft! Just imagine flinging this old T around on dirt with no side rails to keep you from rolling down the mountain! Today, the road is paved with guardrails and every other modern safety feature you’d expect on a busy mountain road. I’m sure it’s still a thrill though to go up in a nearly 90 year old racer!

1927 Ford Model T Speedster As Found

I really like the looks of this Speedster, but I really wish the seller knew more about the car’s history. They know it was built for dirt track racing and may have been raced in Iowa and Nebraska as late as the ’40s. I doubt the next owner will be able to find much more information about it then that, but hopefully the seller can at least point you towards the previous owner so you can find out more about the car’s life after it stopped racing.

Here is a video of last years Hot Rod Hill Climb and you can see a few shots of this car and the seller. Doesn’t this event look like fun? Maybe we should find an old Hot Rod to run this year! So do you think you would have the courage to fly up the mountain in something like this Speedster?

Maybe if I was an eccentric millionaire…..as it is I’m just eccentric. There truly is an ass for every seat and a seat for every ass, but……..

Maybe I’m late to the party, but I would love to hear about your Hawk, Josh. Perhaps you could share a picture or six sometime?

Sorry, I forgot to put the link to my Hawk in. I’ve updated the post with the link, or you can just click here! It’s a fun little machine, but I haven’t had much time to mess with it lately. It’s got the little Ford Kent 1600, but I’ve been thinking about finding a cologne V6 for it!

This looks a lot like the one that Bob Lichty had in Ohio, which was sold to someone who added some patina to it and used it as a subject in a painting… I have my suspicions.

    Featured right here.

It’s a shame that this site and others like it don’t follow up on sale prices.

wow! First of all, COOL car! Secondly, regardless of what they get for it, its another cool old car BACK on the road. If they make money doing it so what? Better than all the naysayers and blowhards calling old cars junk. Maybe a lesson here for some of you??? Take a old piece of junk and make it into something cool that people enjoy. Looks like everyone who sees it these days thinks it the greatest thing they have seen. So now its up for sale, and people are upset about that? Seems to me, go out and do the same. You A) Put a piece of history back out there for people to enjoy, B) You might actually make some coin. C) Even if you dont,. you get positive kharma and satisfaction for a job well done.

My point wasn’t to comment on the sale price, though that jump is ASTRONOMICAL, but to follow the ‘history’. Quite a few liberties are being taken with the story of it’s history, which is the ONLY method you might be able to use to defend it’s value.

THE FUN THING IS THAT THERE STILL ARE THESE OLD TOYS HIDDEN OUT THERE–SOMEWHERE!
THE TASK IS TO FIND THEM BEFORE THE SCRAPPERS DO, i GOT THERE JUST AFTER SOMEONE HAD CUT UP A 32 CHRYSLER CONVERT!

For once the word patina is being accurately used here, this is a cool car that would be fun to own. As for driving in traffic it wouldn’t be any scarier than riding a sidecar motorcycle. You would get rubber neckers everywhere you go. I do think the ask price is a bit high no more than10K IMHO nice find
