Mustang

Think of this Mustang as a blank sheet of paper (or blank computer screen if you are younger than I am). It’s located in Midland, Michigan and is offered for sale here on eBay where bidding starts at $5,000. The car’s Marti Report lists the car as a 6-cylinder automatic, certainly not the most desirable combination. Somewhere along the way, the original engine was replaced with a 302 and the automatic was replaced with a 3-speed manual. The current seller picked it up out of a barn and originally intended to make a Boss 429 tribute car. Now, it’s for sale as a solid project. Major rust seems confined to the battery tray area and door corners, with other metalwork needed to repair where wheel wells were bent back to accommodate larger tires and the front and rear valences that have also been bent. I have to admit that the rear spoiler hinted at Boss 302 visuals to me, but I’m more interested in what you would do with this project? Thanks goes to Jim S. for the tip!

Thanks for sharing the tip Jim. Currently at $5200, reserve not met. Nice car, however with the amount of work needed, that price SHOULD be the reserve. All too often, these cars had 6 to V8 swaps done without addressing spindles and springs, curious if this one was done that way – 4-speed would have been nice. Love the body style though, last year (in my opinion) for great Mustang styling.

While the 69’s are one of the most desirable Mustangs this one is the bare bone basic 6 banger / automatic converted to a V8 / 3 speed ( 4 speed would have been better ) and who knows if it was done correctly. With brake work, electrical ( nightmare ) and the bodywork to be done I agree the current bid should be the reserve. Nothing special here.

It’s an interesting car, if only because I have a bit of personal insight to the 1969 Mustangs. My father decided to buy a brand new car in 1968, and he wanted a Mustang, and he wanted the first of the model year to come off the line. He went to the Ford dealer in Richmond Va. and ordered a Indian Fire Red Mustang with a black vinyl top, and black interior. He also wanted a straight six motor, no power steering, but with air conditioning, and an automatic transmission.
At the time he ordered the car, Ford had not yet set up thier ’69 Mustang production line for the 250 CID straight sixes yet, and Ford had to pull a roller off of the V8 production line, and fit it with the six cylinder to fill the order. This meant that the car had everthing set up for a V8 instead of the six, meaning it had the heavier radiator, shock towers, spindles, brakes, transmission, drive shaft and rear end. True story
