Original Paint: 1962 Porsche 356 Super

Having spent the majority of its life with one family, this Porsche 356 Super is an unrestored find that has 85,000 original miles. Mechanically solid, and ready to drive, this classic and desirable Porsche is a sharp looker minus some sustained body damage that occurred in the 1960s. A grand opportunity for a restoration, this 356 is offered for the buy-it-now price of $69,900. Take a look at it here on eBay out of Louisville, Kentucky.

After 4 decades of storage, this Porsche has been mechanically revived and is a ready to drive machine. The engine seems quite tidy with all of its details in place, and no surprising aftermarket or replacement items. Considered to be low mileage numbers matching car, this Porsche holds many positives for the collector market.

With only minor wear to the carpet and driver seat, the interior is quite pleasant and needs little for a survivor grade machine. If you opted to restore this Porsche, this interior would need little other than some upholstery and carpet.

The biggest let down of this Porsche is the sustained body damage that occurred in the 1960s, likely the reason why the car was parked for 4 decades. While I can appreciate patina, character, or whatever you wish to call it, this damage is a little too far for a minuscule name. Beyond the damage, the body is original, and there appears to be little to no rust. The only noted rot is in the battery tray area, which isn’t all that surprising. Although the bumpers are removed, the seller still has them and they will be included in the sale. Truly worthy of being restored, this Porsche will need special care, and to return to its original appearance. I fear the damage, as there appears to be a minor crease the runs into the edge of the deck lid. Would you pull the trigger on this Porsche?

As thick as the steel is on these cars repairing the left rear quarter will be easy. There is no inner fender well on these cars so metal working it back into shape without cutting or welding is possible. Price is a bit steep but it’s a nice candidate for restoration.

These are great cars, but no rust proofing killed them off too early. Had a chance to buy a 912, less motor , but the seller said the front end was ready to fall off!

The paintless dent repair guy will need to pull out the largest hammer!

I like what’s been done so far.

Price is now $62,500 make and offer.

yea Jack Correct–you would need an expert to go over every square inch of this car especially the underbelly. I agree the quarter could be straightened but its a job for a good metal person. Seems like a lot of scratch but i’m sure someone will snatch it up. Good luck to the new owner!!!

Only two comments: (1) PPI, PPI & PPI; and, (2) around sixty grand if you have a thorough PPI is probably in the right ball park. Without a PPI this is a huge risk. If you buy this car without an inspection and there is significant underbelly rust you will quickly realize $60K+ should have been $20K.

If one wants straight and shiny drivers, there are plenty to go around everywhere. But for the money, as well as, the honor, I personally prefer crunched and original any day of the decade! Especially a nearly 60 yo survivor!

There are plenty of rat VW’s running around, why not a rat 365? Back in the day they were practically family.
