This 1986 Volkswagen Scirocco may not be the hotted-up 16 valve version, but it’s still a rust-free driver with loads of recent maintenance and a low Buy-It-Now of just $2,200. That’s a very fair price for a clean version of Volkswagen’s handsome coupe, and it looks to remain in mostly original condition with a clean interior. The seller even believes the engine was rebuilt not long ago. Find it here on eBay and located in Washington State.
The Scirocco retains its factory alloy wheels, and the rear hatch comes with an attractive OEM spoiler. The rock guard just ahead of the rear fender is another nice, original detail that should provide some comfort the Scirocco has not been repainted. The seller notes there is no rust to be found on the car, and it even retains its original windshield, which is impressive considering the age of the car. While not as quick as the 16V, it’s just as sharp-looking, especially with a modest wheel upgrade and suspension kit.
Scirocco interiors were pretty decent in stock condition, but a previous owner has upgrade this one with the thick-bolstered buckets out of the 16V model. You can see the original mouse-fur gray backseat remains in place, but the front buckets feature the half-cloth, half-leather/vinyl combo of the top trim car. No biggy – this is actually a welcome change from stock condition. The seller notes all of the factory A/C equipment remains in place, but that the compressor needs replacing.
Under the hood, the seller says based on the condition of the camshaft, he believes it was recently rebuilt. Other maintenance addressed in his car includes a new alternator, timing belt, clutch, engine and transmission mounts, CV shafts, and more. Based on the cosmetics of the car and the lengthy list of recent repairs, this Scirocco seems like an excellent value at the current price if you can live without the more powerful engine; then again, engine swaps are common occurrence among the 8V-equipped models.

I had to look for it And it has 202k miles. My brother had 240k on one when the reverse broke. We went to drain the tranny and zero oil was in it. It had never been checked!

He checked the camshaft? Rims are steel.
I think that’s the first time I’ve seen the valve cover off, maybe he was changing the shims? Wheels are 13 inch aluminum Tarantulas, same as the Porsche 924, hard to find at a reasonable price.
I had 1988 16v for six years. I was too big to fit in it comfortably. I didn’t care. Great car!

Nice looking car. I remember the Volkswagen Scirocco. I used to know someone who had one like this. $2200 sounds like a good purchase price. You can then afford to have an inspection done on the car, make sure everything on the car works like it should.
A buddy of mine bought one of these in 78′ I think. If I’m wrong about the year you guys can set me right I’m sure. Anyway I don’t know if it had 16V’s or not but it was cool and well made. 2200? super. FYI The northwest is nothing like the northeast. Later JIMMY
I had an ’84, came with me to Florida in ’94, one of the best cars I’ve owned… It’s downfall was a panic stop where I hit gravel first then dry pavement, the shock broke the frame in the left rear, had it welded twice then traded it in, great car, still miss it… This ’86 looks good, but Washington to Florida? I wonder if they deliver…
