Original Survivor: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette

The 1967 model year marked the final for the production of the C2 Corvette. With a new model waiting in the wings, the sales totals dropped slightly. However, good examples can still command healthy prices today and are hightly sought by enthusiasts. This car would appear to be an original survivor, and it is looking for a new home. Located in Whitehall, Montana, it has been listed for sale here on Facebook. This is a classic that can be yours for $50,000.

The seller doesn’t provide a huge amount of information about this Ermine White classic, so we don’t know how things look below the skin. There is no information provided about the state of the frame or the birdcage. However, its storage location looks clean and dry, which will help the Corvette’s cause. The paint holds a pleasant shine, with no signs of any significant problems. The fiberglass is free from stress cracks or issues around the bonding strips. The chrome, trim, and the glass all look good. This is a Corvette that has all of the hallmarks of a tidy survivor and would grab plenty of favorable attention if it hit the streets as it currently presents.

The Corvette’s interior is serviceable for a tidy survivor. Still, there are a few minor issues that a meticulous owner might want to address if they wanted to take the car to the next level. The most obvious of these is some seam separations on the seats. These are getting to be quite long, and I believe that they are probably beyond repair. A replacement set of covers can be found for $510 in vinyl or $700 in leather. That would help the presentation no end. There is also a wrap on the wheel, and hopefully, this has protected the wheel’s condition. Reproduction wheels are available, but t would be nice if the original could be retained. It doesn’t look like there have been any aftermarket additions, and the factory radio is still in situ. I can’t spot any issues with the dash, and the little that we can see of the carpet looks promising. Once again, this is an area of the Corvette that looks respectable for a survivor-quality classic.

We know that the Corvette is a numbers-matching car and that it features a 327ci V8, a 4-speed manual transmission, and a 3.36 Posi rear end. This latter feature is interesting because the take-up rate on the Posi was surprisingly low in 1967. Only 4,766 buyer ticked that box on the options list, even though at $42.15, it wasn’t an expensive choice. With 300hp on tap, this Corvette should be capable of blitzing the ¼ mile in 14.7 seconds. I use the word “should” for a very good reason. Even though the seller states that the Corvette has a genuine 97,000 miles on the odometer, he provides no information about whether the vehicle runs or drives. He does seem to be approachable for genuine enquiries, so hopefully, he will be forthcoming with information on the Corvette’s mechanical state.

The 1967 model year marked the first of sales contraction for the Corvette since the C2 hit the market in 1963. With a new model on the horizon, this was no surprise. Today the C2 remains a firm favorite amongst enthusiasts, and this one is a car that shows a lot of promise. The frustration is that the seller provides such limited information about the vehicle. That makes it hard to determine whether the price is appropriate.  I suspect that the seller will be answering quite a few questions before this one heads off to that new home.

50 large and limited information? What about the frame? It would make sense to have a pro inspect this. Good luck and stay safe.

A certified car appraiser would be able to give a good idea of the true value of any car’s value.

Not buying the Holley carb as OE on a GM product
It would have a Rochester Carb or an AFB

The only Corvette I ever liked. A friend buys a new Vette every year, and yes with all the electronic gadgets they drive better and probably faster, but don’t have the panache as this 67.
    God bless America

True Survivor cars bring a premium. As they say it’s only original once.
