Ouch! 1969 Camaro Tornado X-11

Tornado one, Camaro zero! What a shame! This 1969 X-11 Camaro is represented as an SS and I see no reason to doubt that claim, but when a barn collapsed on it during a tornado a lot of damage was done. It’s located now in Greenville, South Carolina and is being auctioned here on eBay, where bidding is starting at $4,000. There’s also a rather optimistic buy it now of $20,000.

The seller tells us that they have most of the new panels necessary to repair the car, but they want to sell those separately. They also have a new wiring harness (why would it need one?) that they will sell separately as well. Honestly, I’m seeing this car as a parts donor, but perhaps you think differently?

It is a huge shame, as the car only had 70,000 miles when this disaster happened. From what I can tell, the X-11 code does not guarantee an SS model, so you may want to do some research into the cowl tag to make sure it really is an SS. Anyone got a base model 1969 Camaro they want to turn into an SS clone? And no, I’m not suggesting that someone re-shell this car, although I’m sure you could. What do our Camaro enthusiasts think?

The cowl tag does not tell you if a Camaro is a true SS. There really s no way to verify this point unless the original paperwork, window sticker or build sheet is available.

It will be in the vin # if its an ss. I owned a 70 Monte Carlo with a 350 small block and it had a Rochester 4 bbl carb, and now I see why there is a wiring harness because of the engine fire, this is a scam I would be interested to see the title because I also had a friend that bought a ground up restoration and it caught on fire in the dash panel and he was out $ 15,000 great deal huh an that was 17 yrs ago.

The engine is described as a 350 “Big Block”. Not sure about that.

I wonder when the tornado was, 25 years ago maybe? The carpet is extremely faded. The 350 2bbl is kinda lame also.

Beware barnfinders, the seller has no eBay feedback.

It smells fishy thru my computer.

The hood seems to point to an engine fire as well. I didn’t know tornados caused fires…..

engine fire is probably why it was parked in the first place…

Is the world running out of Camaros? Must they all be saved? Based on the attendance at the local cruise night, the answer is no. Besides, it is already half crushed anyway!

I’m going out to buy a winning lottery ticket so I may SAVE this Camaro. I think Dan is correct it’s half way to the crusher already. Perhaps I could buy it to see what a 350 ” big Block ” looks like. Maybe the tornado blew another 350 along side the other 350 inside the engine compartment.

Wouldn’t that make it 700 cubic inches?

What a shame. Based on a glance from the I can see about three parts that can be salvaged (headlight, fog lights, maybe the rear view mirror). Bummer!

This is a base model Camaro with a 307 ci in engine 2 brl carb . Front bumper and lower valance damaged , front end pushed inward , bumper pushed over 5-6 inches …… This car was wrecked before it was parked in the barn. The barn may have fell on it but it was wrecked before that . A hole lot a incorrect stories with this car .

From what I can see, I’d agree. Sure, the barn may have collapsed, but the car appears to have taken a flight before that. It really does not look as though it was a very nice car before the tornado, then very improperly stored afterwards.

you know they did have a 350 2 bbl carb . i’d be interested in how you know it’s a 307? it’s a 4 speed car too . just wondering cause they did have Multiple 350’s they used and some were 2 bbl..

You really think there’s $1500 worth of parts on that?

Now let’s see, burn the engine, park it in the barn, wait for a lucky tornado, make an insurance claim fo $30k, buy it back for $500, then list it on eBay for $20k. What a world!

Makes perfect sense, looking at it that way. Anything you make off the car is just an extra check to add to already collected funds.

So you buy his half crushed car and he’ll sell you the body panels needed to fix it? I wonder if he’d throw in a kick to the groin.

I think I’d rather drop $4k on a King Cobra and actually have *some* fun, instead of trying for umpteen years to try and put this junk yard hulk back together.

I’m 3 1/2 hours away from this car one way. If it was 30 minutes I would run over and look at it just to talk to this guy and figure out why he thinks it’s worth this much in this condition. What probably happened was somebody told him it was a 70K car if restored. So he deducted the price of the sheet metal parts and other stuff he knew it needed and came up with an awesome deal of 20K. It looks like it was rolled and flipped and someone fooled him into thinking a barn fell on it. Now he knows the truth and is trying to get all of his money back. He done bit off more than he can chew and his wife is pissed. LOL.

This car has been listed on craigslist for over a year i have seen it. This car was not crushed by a barn falling on from a tornado it would have never crushed the roof like that. This car was rolled you can see as plain as day how its been rolled. He’s been asking for 20,000 for a long long time as much as he tries nobody would be stupid enough to buy this. What a joke.
