Package Deal: 1959 Chevrolet El Caminos

Some vehicles can tend to generate more interest than others when they are listed for sale, and the listing for this pigeon-pair of Chevrolet El Caminos is a perfect example. A quick check of the advertisement here on eBay reveals that there are currently 102 people watching the auction, which is a pretty impressive number. This pair of classics can be found waiting for a new owner in Clinton, Illinois. The seller has set a BIN price of $7,500 for the pair, but the option is also available to make an offer.

The owner believes that between the two vehicles, the potential is there to create one really nice El Camino. The Crown Sapphire El Camino has a title, while the vehicle that is finished in Cameo Coral doesn’t. Looking over the comprehensive catalog of photos provided by the owner reveals that both cars seem to be fairly solid. The floors and frames on both appear to be quite good, and the Coral car looks to have solid panels that could be used to replace some of the more rusty panels on the Sapphire one. There is a fair amount of external trim and chrome between the two cars, but it does look like there might be some common items missing between both, so some replacement parts will need to be sourced. It also looks like the glass in the Sapphire car might be in good condition, although the glass in the donor car is all either cracked or missing.

The driver’s side of the Sapphire car looks pretty reasonable, with no major rust issues. It is hard to tell the condition of the interior trim, but the interior of the donor car is pretty badly shredded. Hopefully, there will be enough good pieces such as gauges and interior chrome between the two to make one good car.

The Coral car does not have an engine or transmission, while the Sapphire car has a 235ci straight-six engine and a 2-speed Powerglide transmission. It is unclear what condition these components are in, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the next owner chooses to ditch both items, and drops a V8 under the hood. Still, these are a pretty easy engine to work on, so if the Sapphire vehicle is a numbers-matching car, then it might be worth trying to breathe new life into the engine and transmission.

Package deals like this one come along every now and then, and they tend to have varying levels of potential. This deal looks like it has a lot of potential, and the end product should be an extremely nice and very desirable vehicle. Do we have any Barn Finds readers who are keen to take it on?

Lots of work but plenty of parts there. Love the 59 and 60 Caminos. Price might be a tad high. Ideally would to see a 348 or 409 make its way back in, 4 speed. seems you could come up with a lot of the parts to make one. Or something different- freshen up the stovebolt and put a 5 speed out of an s-10 behind it. Lots of possibilities. Seller seems honest and motivated to make a deal!! good luck to the new owner. These are fun to work on and would be a great father son project!!
    Cheers

PLEASE list the approx. location of the cars in your stories. It would save a lot of useless clicking… and dreaming… (these are in Clinton,IL).

These are great land yachts. My ’60 has a small block V8, would love to find a W-block for it. Sadly though, rust never sleeps. Not difficult, but you are in for a very labor-intensive restoration. Good Rat-Rod material perhaps?

This is a major build , I have one of these. Fortunately, mine was from San Diego–no rust and parts are really hard to find. They only made about 22,000 of these things. However they do look great . I Like mine

Very nice indeed. I would imagine the glass is very tough to find for these.

Hopefully at least one complete car will come of this story.

Actually I’ve seen glass for these in the Eckler’s catalog. I have a 60 myself! (and for sale) In Ogdensburg, NY.
        Has a 350 in it. (was originally a 348)

One of my hope to own one before I become fertilizer cars. I’ve lusted after a driver quality 59 for years but never have found one with a price I’m good with that doesn’t need major work. Morley, I’m liking your rodney, please tell us it’s a stick car…….and if anyone knows of a reasonable driver 59 with a stick in the Great Northwest/BC let me know…………

I hate the term “bucket list” and have been trying to find a suitable alternative. I found it today! “before I become fertilizer” Thanks Ted! :D

Well, I have a real problem with this ad and others like it. Too many cars in one ad. No pics of the other cars. Ummm…
