Panther Pink Project: 1970 Dodge Challenger

In the world of collectible Mopars, the words “Panther Pink” have always been held with some reverence given the relative rarity of the unusual color. Pink is not an unusual color in general, but choosing to have your 340-equipped muscle car painted from head to toe in Panther Pink takes a committed owner who eschews the typical preferences for a brawny performance vehicle. Find this claimed authentic Panther Pink Challenger here on eBay with bidding over $3K.

The project is a big one, but in addition to the rare paint code, the Challenger is also well equipped. Originally a 340 car with a 727 automatic transmission, the motor is long gone but the automatic is still with the car. The hood is original in terms of being equipped with the Rallye hood with hood pins from the factory, but it is not the original hood.

Rallye wheels and the full center console were other features this Challenger left the factory with, but the prodigious floor rot is not what the factory had in mind when the car was built. That’;s the result of regular use in Canadian climate, as the Challenger is currently sitting in a boneyard somewhere near Manitoba. Really, the interior appears to be mostly gone, although the backseat is presentable.

The engine bay has been engine-less for quite some time, and the firewall shows how awesome Panther Pink can be when not suffering from years of sun exposure and paint fade. I personally have always loved rare colors that required an owner to make a very specific choice about how to equip their dream car, and I hope the next owner of this Challenger restores it back to its factory color and options.

Awesome car. I hope someone falls in love with it again and brings it back from the edge. I always loved the panther pink and plum crazy mopars even though I’m a Pontiac guy. I did grow up the son of a challenger guy though, and there is one in the stable.

Yard art. So valuable the owner ( or someone) thought he’d strip the engine out and leave it to rot in the elements……..really?

It’s at $3550.00 right now. The decimal point needs to move 3 ticks to the left and I’m still not convinced it would be a good buy.

What a mess. Even more interesting (to me anyway) because it was built at Chrysler’s LA assembly plant. It’s a long, long, long way from its birthplace.

WOW! If someone can see more than nothing but a pile of rust they are a better person than I, I honestly can’t even see a parts car here. The color doesn’t help me at all. I hope the scrap yard is close.
