Parade-Ready! 1978 Lincoln Mark V Convertible

A perfect fit for its home of Topeka, Kansas, this 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Convertible is well suited for cruising on flat roads that meet at predictable right angles. Thanks to our reader VWBubblehead for spotting this prairie-schooner in remarkable survivor condition. Check out the auction listing at proxibid.com.

Though Lincoln did not produce a factory Mark V convertible, ACC (American Custom Coach) converted Lincoln coupes into convertibles, known as the “St Tropez,” from 1977–1979, as well as other models and years. You can read more about the history of ACC at coachbuilt.com. With less than 55,000 miles on the clock, this long red Lincoln has plenty of life left to give.

The well-preserved soft white leather “Comfort Lounger” seats promise to cradle you like a baby in mama’s arms. At nearly 5000 pounds and 230 inches long, this open-air Lincoln makes an ideal parade car for any Mayor, Representative, or local Used Car King. Stick a Homecoming Queen or Dairy Princess on the back as an accessory and —boom– you’re a star.

Be sure to check out the original 1978 Mark V sales brochure and other information at LincolnMarkV.com. The listing indicates that the optional 460 cid V8 powers this converted convertible. This is a running, driving classic ready for a leisurely cruise down an open expanse of any not-too-interesting road near you. What do you think of this drop top land yacht?

At $8,500 that was a bargain if it looked near as good as it did in the photos. I would have paid that. Cool ride.

Love this old cruiser! Though it drinks gas like a hippo on the Savanna…the smiles per miles would outweigh that for the first couple years. Sooo cool!
