Parked in ’82! Dad’s 1960 Corvette Convertible

The history of the Corvette, “America’s Sports Car,” imparts a sense of potential every abandoned project car bearing the name. The novice might say with optimism, “Well it’s fiberglass so it can’t rust!” In fact the rust repair on the metal structure of a Corvette can be more daunting than other cars. All that aside, this 1960 Corvette Convertible in Gonzales, Louisiana seeks a new owner here on eBay awaiting what seems like a highly unlikely $31,000 opening bid. Finished examples are selling on eBay well under $50,000, but you can’t blame a person for trying.

The seller’s father parked this fiberglass-bodied beauty in 1982, and the description says simply “needs some love.” From what we can see it may have been Honduras Maroon, a lovely hue that you don’t see every day.

A host of 283 cid (4.6L) engine options ranged from 230 and 315 HP. Check out more details about these sharp ’60 Vettes at vettefacts.com. Only the base engine had stamped valve covers, except with “Chevrolet” script, suggesting this is not the original motor, but who knows?

The manual transmission adds interest and value, as does the convertible and detachable hard top. This could make a nice driver regardless of its original equipment or provenance. A buyer might get lucky and find out it’s truly exceptional. Who will roll the dice or do the homework on this forgotten mystery ‘Vette?

Really hate to see any of these converted to Hurst. Keep it original with hand squeeze trigger and all.

that PCV hose tells it is not the original valve cover, possibly not the original engine.
an opening bud of $31K demands some frame/undercarriage photos in my world.

The seller is a man of few words.

I’m guessing the engine is a late 60’s or early 70’s 307 or 350. From the Q-Jet carb and type of divorced choke installed, it looks like a 68-70 intake 350, while the valve covers are 69 to mid 70’s small block.

It doesn’t look like a bad start for a restoration or restomod to me, though I think mid to upper $20’s is a little more realistic. Other than the engine and shifter, it looks like a fairly complete and original 60 Corvette.

Just because they say it was their dads old Corvette doesn’t mean it’s true. More than a few flippers claim it’s a relatives car or “family owned”, it’s often BS. That claim is often designed to gain trust with potential buyers.

Saying it came from my family wouldn’t necessarily be a good selling point! We were always hard on our vehicles. Not abused, but very thoroughly used!

Agreed, way too expensive for its current condition. I would, however, love to have it for an Art Morrison chassis, LS (or new LT), and 6-speed. Still looks better then the new C8, in my humble opinion (apples to oranges, I know).

All I can say is “he’s nutty”. In this condition $20k is over priced.
