Parked since the ’90s! 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I

While pre-1969 Mustangs currently hold the sweet spot of collectible value, the 1969 and 1970 model years follow closely behind. Besides, these cars weren’t sold to bolster some uptight collector’s IRA; they were meant to tear up the roads! This 1969 Mustang Mach I is located in Seymour, Connecticut and listed here on eBay with a “Buy it Now” price of $10,000.

The Cragar S/S wheels and BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires confirm the story that this SportsRoof Mustang last prowled the roads sometime in the 1990s. Frankly I’d rather see these wheels and tires instead of stock rolling gear simply for variety. The seller confirms what we might expect from a New England barn find:  rust repair, both cosmetic and structural, await the next owner.

The Mach I package, available on 351 or 428 SportsRoof Mustangs, included the mechanical upgrades of the GT package plus flat back hood, high-back buckets, dual sport mirrors, wood-like interior trim, stripes, console, and more (thanks to myclassicgarage.com for some details). This ’69 Mustang comes with a Marti Report showing the original black interior you see here and Lime Gold paint.

The seller graciously notes that this 351W did not come with the car, though another 351W did. Check out that Accel Supercoil! My ’78 LeSabre passed its smog test with a hollowed out catalytic converter and an Accel SuperCoil tapped into my GM HEI ignition. Among Mustangs, the ’69 Sportroof is my favorite, and I hope to own one some day. Pictures of a car on a trailer can be a red flag, indicating a “flipper” who knows nothing about the car he or she is selling, however this seller has included details that others may have left to the buyer to inquire about or discover for themselves, and that’s always a good sign. Should this car bring the $10,000 asking price, or do you have another number in mind?

Agree that it would be fun but with the amount of work required on it and not being a machine numbers vehicle, IMO unless you’re doing it for yourself you’ll be upside-down on it fairly quick.

Could be a fun one on the strip if that’s your plan.

Make it into a tribute Bud Moore Trans Am racer, in my opinion one of the best looking race cars of all time

      Those are good looking cars.

Why start with this car when all you need is a sport roof Mustang shell.

I love my 78 cobra ii but the 69 mach 1 is the iconic muscle car, the designers should be honored for their achievement. Just saying.

If you look at the sellers history it was listed as an auction last week with a high bid of $8,700. It’s the worst time of year to sell a collector car and this one doesn’t have the pull of a big block or 4 speed. It’s a lot of money for a car that needs a complete restoration, at that price it pays to be selective.

It’s been on my local CL for a week or two now. $10,000 asking price is apparently too steep.

It is too steep. To get this past $30K when done you’ve got to restomod it. No body is excited about a non matching 351. New engine, tranny, suspension, brakes, plus interior, body work and paint. That’s a lot of work and still a lot of money before you add in labor.

Pretty certain you could also get a 390 in a 69 Mach l.

Too much $$$, we bought our 70 in 2005 for $14,500 and it looked better than this one and it was numbers matching then we drove it home from Colorado Springs to Kansas City. But after stripping car it took 15K in bodywork and paint.

Fulm, Love the stance. That was the look in the 70s-90s.
I,m doing a 71 duster orig. purple car that will sport crager ss wheels like this . 340/4spd rallydash and the blacked out hood with the factory 340/wedge sticker on the hood. Oh and have the sharktooth grill and factory rect. exhaust tips.
I don’t know if you are a mopar fan, but the look of yours and what I am doing would make for a great street race like in the day.
    COOL MUSTANG!!!!!!

I had 2 friends of mine that had Mach 1’s. One was a 428 the other was a 351. I have ridden in, drove and worked on both. The one with the 428 was fast, I re jetted the carb and got a little more out of if. I had both of them dump hot water on my feet while riding shotgun when the heater hoses failed.

Best looking fastback Mustang of all time were the Boss 429 cars, don’t know what it is about ’em I like so much, maybe the hood scoop or the minimal graphics compared to a mach1, probably the dumbest engine Ford could put in a mustang though.

Troy maybe the dumbest motor especially for changing spark plugs but it’s the most collectable and highest dollar Mustang out there.

    Thanks Erikj.
I appreciate the stock look as well as a street mod look, but always had a soft spot for old school look.
I am a mopar fan. Your duster sounds right up my alley. Side by side they would be a blast from the past!!
