Patinaed Racer: 1963 MG Midget

Patina Racer

There are some cars that I want so badly that it is hard to write them up. They are not always rare or even great bargains. Normally, they are just rust free drivers at good prices that I think would be fun. This 1963 MG Midget fits in that category. It’s not perfect, but it sure looks entertaining with its brookland screens, racing stripes, and stripped out interior. The seller has done a lot of work to make the car drivable, but other than cosmetics, has pretty much left things original. They recently drove it to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and claims that it was a big hit. The $3,000 price tag seems reasonable too, so it’s a good thing that this one is on the other side of the country because I’d probably be on my way to pick it up now instead of here writing this! Find it here on craigslist of you are interested. Thanks goes to Tory A. for the submission!

i love the photo of the footbox. on mine i had to push the clutch pedal in to turn the high beam on and off. i once tried to get my shoe under the clutch pedal to get to the highbeam switch and got my shoe hungup. i got my shoe off put still could not push the clutch pedal in far enough to disengage the clutch. i never tried that again. wrong year, to many changes and missing parts for me. but right color inside and out. great find

Nothing screams more fun than an older “Spriget”, although, I would replace the grill. I know for a fact, at 60, the little Sprite engine is beginning to holler, so it’s not the best interstate cruiser, but for back roads, can’t be beat. This one looks in great shape. Can’t go wrong here.

Gone already…..no surprise there. The seller probably could have sold a bunch of these, if he had them.

I happend to be sitting at my laptop when the email came in last evening. I was able to dialogue with the owner via email, and came to the conclusion I could not go too far wrong at his ask…

The seller seems like a terrific guy that moves from project to project, attempting to complete one item of interest per year. The MG was this years, and he has inbound work for next year, thus the sale.

I was lucky to get it, and I will update you all when its safely in my garage. I don’t plan to change the aesthetics, simply maintain and manage the mechanicals. Thanks to the seller, and thanks to the BarnFinds.com email

    Best,
