Pile ‘O Parts or Better Than That? Ford Bronco Project

At Barn Finds, we have seen our share of Ford Broncos of all flavors lately. When a ratty one appears, commenters fall starkly into two camps: restore it, or strip it for parts. The “restore it” crowd points out the high values that these vehicles are drawing these days, justifying diving into a Bronco in almost any condition. The “strip it” crowd usually says, “too much trouble, too much expense”. Each camp gets another shot at opining today, as here on craigslist we have a Ford Bronco for sale, with an asking price of $5,900. The car is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is on a bill of sale – no title – and it’s being sold for parts, as the seller needs more space in his shop. The year is in question. The seller indicates it is a 1968, but “maybe” a 1976. However, it doesn’t have side marker lights in the front fenders that I can see – those came along in ’68. Someone has given it a hood with a scoop, the fenders are cut, and it has a serious brush guard hung under the grille.

The motor is a V8 – likely either a 289  cu. in. or a 302 cu. in. No word on whether the motor turns or when it was last running and driving. At least it’s there. The radiator is missing. Wonder how this would clean up? I do see a bit of blue on one valve cover.

The seller indicates that both the frame and body are rusty, and I guess he means it. But the underside shot here isn’t bad; maybe this is newer sheet metal. Of course whenever rust is mentioned, better see it up close and personal. One person’s “rust” is not necessarily another person’s “rust”.

The interior has at least a few useful parts but the dash is missing a switch or two. Hard to see here, but this is a manual transmission. The C4 automatic was offered in 1973. The top doesn’t look terrible and there’s some decent glass here. I’ve seen worse Broncos for sale near this price. I wouldn’t embark on a restoration of this example, but many might. What’s your verdict?

I don’t see anything in the ad that indicates it’s possibly a ’76 – and it’s not. Definitely looks like a ’68. Side markers didn’t come along until ’70. ’68 was the first year for the side reflectors mounted low on the fenders.

The seller changed the ad. He also was asking $7,500 to start with.

They do command high dollars restored but this example would take all those dollars plus years of busted knuckles, cussing, blood sweat and tears not to mention a divorce !!!

yr? no way of tellin till on the site. Looks like early mods/rest0 (partial if the later). Fenders could have been replaced (no markers /OR/ pre DOT #108 when reflector (not markersyet) were required – commonwealthcare.zix
portal.com). Too dim a pic to see if a hood/ (scoup there anyway) /windshied clip is there for early model, cant see grill for same reason (to spot turn signals), etc.

We gett’em to mod anyway, just get one, yr dont matter…
