Please Be Real: 1966 Alfa Romeo GTA

1966 Alfa Romeo Gta Side

10/4/11 – The ebay listing has been removed without any explanation.

Even though they have not been barn finds, we have dug up some amazing finds today. Well, we found another one. This one may look plain, but this automobile is something very special. It is a 1966 Alfa Romeo GTA and we have not seen one come up for sale in quite some time. This car is located in Wellfleet, Massachusetts and is currently listed here on eBay. The bidding is at $20,000 and the reserve has not been met with two days left.

It may look like a run of the mill GTV, but this is no GTV. Autodelta built these by getting ahold of some standard GTV bodies which they then stripped all the outer steel panels off. They then drilled holes to lighten the inner structure. After that, they bonded new aluminum panels where the steel ones once were. It was all put back together with plexiglass windows and a GTA steering wheel. All this work created a very lightweight shell.

The standard 1600cc twin cam was nothing to look down upon, but they took things a step further by adding a special twin spark head. They also used magnesium parts to lighten things up even more. With its high revving engine, disk brakes, five speed, and a curb weight of about 1,640 pounds this thing was lethal on the track and street.

There were only 493 of these cars produced and this one will not go cheap. We suggest that you have it inspected and verify that it is a real GTA. Parts are readily available so clones are not unheard of. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the best postwar Alfa Romeos ever produced.

Nice looking car!Sounds like it would be a BLAST to drive!! 8-)…Curious that there are no pics of the engine, & frankly not many pics at all…You’d think that a car of this pedigree would justify a link to an external site w 100+ pics.(Maybe the seller figures that interested parties will either contact him for more pics, or inspect it in person?)

I agree. Pretty sparse info for a supposedly pretty rare car.

I agree, the last alfa that I saw on the site was a spyder and I asked for more photos and I also asked some questions that should have been easy to answer. I have the cash for the right car, but some of these bozos must think that we are as stupid as they are and I never received an answer, even if it was to say drop dead!!!
