Pocket Sized Wagon: 1950 Crosley Woody

Small and simple, the Crosley brand automobiles offered unique styling in a compact package. This 1950 model wagon is a project in progress that is on the verge of being a runner. With fresh wheels and tires, this small classic wagon is offered for $3,000. Take a look at it here on craigslist out of Bennington, Vermont. Thanks to reader AMXBrian for this neat compact submission!

The exterior panels on this Crosley appear solid minus the rear apron, the rocker section below the doors, and the lower portion of the passenger rear quarter. I am curious about the floors since this car is in Vermont, but I would guess that there is some hope as the seller collected sheet metal and put some money into fresh wheels and tires for this wagon. The woody like body paneling is begging for a faux wood paint job, even though I have an appreciation for its weathered appearance.

Despite the rust concerns the seller has panels to repair this tiny classic wagon, although it’s a bit vague as to what he has and what is needed to fix this wagon. Large classic cars can often be a difficult buy as they can have a large cost, and take up a fair amount of real estate in the garage. Fortunately these Crosleys take up little space, often are priced very reasonably, and are definitely a ‘hoot to drive. Would you save this Crosley?

    $300.00 sounds about right.

Love how they always go up for sale after they spend enough time and money to make concours quality wheels and tires to show just how bad the rest of the car really is. Another fad I wish would just go away.

That Crosley may have 4-wheel disc brakes.

These engines are a hoot but watch them as let’s just say the crack easily due to not Steel . The engine crazily was made from sheet metal rather than cast iron like most other engines😮😮😮😮😮🙀

Being a 1950, this should have the CIBA (Cast Iron Block Assembly) engine and not the troubled CoBra engine. If you want a Crosley project, though, find one with a better body than this rust bucket.

Back in the ’70s, I used to see a couple traveling in the slow lane on the freeway near Covina in a Crosley wagon at a blistering 45 mph.

I’m with Ikey on this one – spend the extra cash and buy a good’n.

“……..even though I have an appreciation for its weathered appearance.”

Weathered appearance? Other than the wheels, the body looks like it spent a few months soaking in a sewage lagoon.

Dad had a Crosley pickup that he drove to eight grade, one room country school, in the early 50’s. Picked up the teacher and gave her a ride on the way.

There is nicely restored 1951 Crosley wagon for $11,500 or best offer that has been listed twice within the last month on eBay with no takers. Even if this was free you would be into it for more than that amount.

I had an all original 51 Crosley wagon and rear section had basket weave decal looking like a picknic basket design. It was cute.
