Possible Ex-Patrol Car: 1968 Dodge Polara

Ex-Patrol Polara

A four-door Dodge normally get us excited. When it’s an ex-highway patrol car with a high performance engine under the hood though, that’s a different story! The seller of this 1968 Polara claims that it was used by the Nevada Highway Patrol. It has been stripped of its police car specific items, but it does have a “K” in the VIN which proves that it was a special order vehicle. It also has an “L” in there which would mean that it also had the hot version of the 440. The original engine has gone missing and block that is currently in place is seized. That’s a shame because this could be a cool cruiser with some work. The price of $1,895 doesn’t seem too bad either. Take a close look at the eBay ad here and let us know if you think it really saw some action.

Had to laugh at the seller’s comment about not being too rusty followed by a list of significant rust repairs that are required.

The high idle was to allow the charging system to keep up with the electrics (radio/lights).

Kinda cool, and I’m a sucker for Polaras (weird I know) but nothing that made this special is still a part of this car so…

With the certified speedometer VIN # and the pull and lock for fast idle cable…..it’s definitely a police model

I agree, without a doubt this was a state patrol car. Aside from the other items mentioned, I knew someone with an old state patrol car (’65 Plymouth) and that 4 pronged holder on the inner fender had a coil of gas hose plumbed into the gas line and was used to pump gas into a stranded motorists car. Pretty tired, and since the police stuff is gone, it’s just a 4 door Dodge.

I’m trying to acquire one myself. Except mine is a 1971 Polara with a numbers matching 383 2bbl that’s been in my family since new

I used to work for the State of Nevada, that property tag on the door post looks legit.

What an angry stare the front of this car gives off. Like it’s still pissed off from something that happened in 1968.

FLman: 17 months later, and that is still one of the best comments ever.
