Pristine Survivor: 1980 International Scout II

This International Harvester Scout II is the last of its breed.  Produced from 1960 to 1980, this 4×4 was one of the first SUVs on the market and competed with the likes of Jeep and the Ford Bronco. This Scout II was sold in 1979 and had a MSRP that exceeded $11,000. The truck is listed here on eBay with 1 day remaining in the auction. Currently, this beauty has received 34 bids and the price has exceeded $28,000. The Scout II is located in Edmond Oklahoma and the seller has had the vehicle for about 4 years.

One of the many options on this Scout II is the 345 cubic inch V8 engine. Early Scouts were equipped with a 152 cubic inch inline four cylinder engine that was rated at 93 horsepower from the factory. Later models of the International Harvester Scout offered bigger and more power optional engines including a larger inline 4 cylinder, an inline 6 cylinder, a 266 cubic inch V8, a 304 cubic inch V8 engine and a 345 cubic inch V8 engine. A few 1979 and 1980 Scout IIs were equipped wtih a Nissan built 198 cubic inch turbocharged diesel inline 6 cylinder. This V8 engine is backed by a floor shifted automatic transmission.

The black interior looks pretty nice. Late model Scout IIs received nicer itneriors compared to the spartan interiors of early versions (Scout 80). International Harvester manufactured three generations of the Scout from 1960 to 1980. The first generation Scout was called the Scout 80 and was produced from 1960 to 1965. The next generation of Scouts was produced from 1966 to 1971 with International Harvester calling badging this unit as a Scout 800. It showed touches of refinement compared to the first generation Scout. The final generation of the Scout was called the Scout II and was built from 1971 to 1980.

Some of the options on this Scout II include tilt steering, AM/FM stereo, chrome exterior package, the optional 3.31 rear differential, custom interior, sliding rear quarter window, a full console and of course the largest cubic inch engine available. This example should continue to draw more bids and sell very well.

    We had a 80 Scout come into the shop with the Turbo Diesel Nissan engine. Neat rig with the diesel albeit a slow one.

    Had two scouts in the family, excellent trucks, I hope this is the final year with the galvanized steel body as the previous ones enjoyed rust.

    Had a old Navy buddy had a 62 Scout with the 4 banger. That old girl would climb a tree. We use to go out in the woods on base in Mississippi and pull the BASE Power Wagons out when they would get them stuck.

    The 80 Scout was the only year for a Dana 300 transfer case and rectangular headlights. I miss mine but that’s pretty rich for me!

    Definitely repainted. The stripe is a poor recreation of the original. Also the first scout came out in 61.
