Rare Carallo Kit: 1984 Chevrolet Camaro

One of the easiest ways to understand what the Carallo Camaro translates to is this: it’s the bowtie equivalent to the Pontiac Tojan, a rendition of the Firebird designed to make it into a far more exotic creation than its original designer ever intended. So, you have the Firebird Tojan and the Camaro Carallo, both of which are extremely limited production vehicles that typically carry a high price tag but low awareness makes me wonder if sellers ever get their number. This Carallo is said to be one of only 100 made, and I’ve seen other references calling out a lower production figure 0f 95 with the bulk of those T-top cars. The Camaro is said to be in excellent condition and is listed here on craigslist for $29,000.

These wacky one-offs are impossible to ignore, even if they didn’t achieve immediate sales success. I’ve never quite understood why the 1980s, seemingly more than any other era, compelled so many coachbuilders and custom shops to create their own version of an already well-established model. While the styling may have represented a dramatic departure from the original mold, there’s still no mistaking it for a third-generation Camaro. From the front especially it’s a familiar face, with the side body panels and elongated rear end being more obvious clues that this is a heavily restyled Camaro.

The rear taillight panel is also a major revamp from the factory styling, with four distinct cut-outs to create a unique taillight panel, along with an integrated rear spoiler and additional “hoop” going over the top of the rear glass. The fenders are also enhanced quite a bit, with a wide sill running in between the edges of the flared arches, which reminds me of stepping carefully into a first-generation Dodge Viper so you didn’t roast your legs on the plastic above the side-exit exhaust. This Carallo hasn’t been upgraded to side pipes, but we’d still love to hear how this one sounds with the preferred five-speed manual on board.

Asking nearly $30,000 is quite ambitious on the seller’s part because even with the condition being excellent, relatively few people know this car exists and/or have any interest in owning one. For the ask here, you could go out and buy one of the cleanest third-generation Camaros or Firebirds on the market today, and still have some money left over. At least unlike some of our other recent one-offs, this one remains in excellent condition and hasn’t been left as an unfinished project in someone’s garage, waiting for final reassembly. Hopefully, the next owner will continue the tradition of keeping this oddball Camaro intact and reciting its impressive production statistics.

Oh, my! IMO almost all Camaros, aside from the first and the current generations, have overhang issues. This design sort of turns that notion all the way up to eleven.

It is not a kit car. Less then 100 built . Carralo….spelling….corrected. 302 fuel injected. Some are 2 door, T top, fiberglass with metal doors. Only a few in US a Japan ordered 100 but a few left here in USA. Fun and fast. A woman designed it so watch the ugly comments please😇
