Rare Highlander Package! 1972 Chevrolet C10

Even today the wearing of plaid in Scotland can be more than a fashion choice. Just as in some U.S. metropolitan areas, certain Scottish plaids brand you as a member of one clan or another. This 1972 Chevrolet C10 Custom Deluxe includes a number of upgrades including air conditioning, camping mirrors, and the rare “Highlander” package. I’m not sure which clan the blue and white plaid upholstery represents, but it’s probably not the Crips. After a long bake in the California sun, this honest pickup has been minimally refurbished with fresh tires, a fuel system flush, and maintenance items to make it safe once again. The listing here on eBay limits bidders to a $8500 Buy It Now option.

With 62,000 miles on the clock, most wear is from weather not use or abuse. You could do a lot worse when truck-shopping for your $8500. This truck could be one of the cheapest to keep running, as their popularity has resulted in nearly every part being available today.

This west coast cab has held up well inside, suggesting the Highlander plaid seats may have lived underneath a protective cover in their earlier years, a common practice with many vehicles of the ’60s and early ’70s. The air-conditioning works, at least somewhat. Tinted glass and tilt-wheel add to the creature comforts.

Apparently surviving a recent battle with either a pressure washer or five cans of WD-40, the engine compartment shows every sign of being completely stock. As one might expect from the trailering mirrors, this C10 has heavy optional components including heavier springs, the 350 cid (5.7L) V8, power steering, extra gauges, auxiliary battery, and more. Grab your favorite person or two, throw a dog and some gear in the back, and head off for adventure! Where would you go exploring in this trusty Highlander?

In answer to your question of the clans plaids, Jeff, in accordance to the dry humor that is of our Aviemore friends (the Highlands-Speyside Scottish Whiskey area!), the blue/white pattern on these Highland seats is of the southwest law enforcement communities akin to their overhead lights, whereas the red/blue is of the western police communities…
They also said none of them could recall a clan using this pattern.
In answer to where to take it-anywhere and everywhere. Heck, take it to Scotland for an official assessment!😁

Clans don’t wear plaids, they wear tartans.

Too bad it’s a C-20 , 8 lug wheels are the give away. Still could be a nice usable truck, just a but heavy duty to drive around empty. This was built to carry a camper.

I love nice interiors, and being a true fan of this gen trucks I find the Highlander pattern incredibly cool only surpassed by the Houndstooth version. GMC also used this cloth for 72, only turned 90deg to produce a somewhat ‘different’ pattern.
The upholstery seems surprisingly nice compared to the rest of the truck, could be a reproduction? They’ve been on the market a few years now

I think plaid, striped, and houndstooth interiors are very neat. Though this truck is appealing, my next vehicle will be purchased for use a daily driver. With my situation, it is unsuited for that purpose.

Is nobody going to mention the price for this truck that needs virtually everything?

I guess it depends on what level you want to take this truck to but saying it needs everything seems pretty off target. I would guess most anyone who has tackled much of any old vehicle project would be pretty happy to have a starting point like this.

Just another negative comment about price. I get a kick out of the “experts” on price on this page. Everything posted has people who scoff at the price, yet they all go away, LOL! In real life most of the people I’ve dealt with that are price experts own nothing. I guess they were all to high priced!

Eldorado, if you are talking about me, you would be wrong.

I have purchased well over a hundred old cars to play with, having had 125 in my collection at one time, but I am down to nine right now, but that is changing very soon.

A beat up truck that is a 3/4T and a long bed normally does not demand this kind of money as the 1/2T short beds are the hot thing now.

This truck has a nice interior, but not much else, and in case you haven’t notices, it is not gone.

I take that back, I just saw the front seat is ripped on the top part of it, so the truck needs everything.

Joad, when I buy a vehicle, I don’t want top pay for what it could be, but rather what it is right now.

This is a flipper that changed the fluids in the vehicle and raised the price.

Sure makes a heck of a lot more sense than that 5 figure AD pickup a while back. Sure it’s going to need a lot, but these “pre-square” bodies are even harder to find than my ’77. And there’s a ton of repro parts, I certainly wouldn’t pay this, but try and find another, anywhere.

Agreed. There was a much nicer Highland edition for sale last year in the Spokane CL that sat for sale for months at $6500 and then $5500.

The company I know offered the Highlander upholstery seems to be OOB… I checked with SMS and on their site they offer 4 different colors in the Highlander pattern. Unless you already have experience with SMS, they are neither the fastest nor cheapest. But they churn out great products

Anybody else notice the bed floor is transparent? There’s sunlight shining through it.

I’ll do 7 but this whole patina thing with anything made after 1960 is getting stoopid. Wet sanded……..really? It’s a damn good 3/4 ton Chevy with A/C.

I like this truck. The paints a bit rough, but is still a nice work truck. A friend of mine ( who just recently passed away) had two of these. One red and white and one yellow and white. They were both nice trucks, and so was Ron. RIP my friend
    God bless America

If this truck were a 1/2 ton stepside shortbed it would easily go for at least double, and possibly even triple the money in this condition. Virtually everything on these trucks can be replaced with new, high quality parts from reputable companies like LMC Truck, Brothers Truck Parts, and other suppliers, so if something is scarred, rusted, or not working properly, it can easily be replaced, often at lower cost than repairing it.
Hagerty valuation comes in at $7,100 for a #4 truck, and $13,100 for a # 3. I would put this truck at somewhere in between a #3 and a #4, probably closer to a #4, so there may be some room for negotiation. In the end, a vehicle is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it at the time and place it is actually sold.

C-20 Custom Camper built for the long haul with auxiliary saddle tanks on each side and telescoping rear step bumper for the overhang of the camper. My Dad owned a ‘71 with the 402ci. and hauled a huge camper to Florida from Pennsylvania with no problems,a/c on and stops at many “full-service” gas stations that don’t exist anymore,it was a workhorse!
