Rare Patriot Edition: 1976 International Harvester Scout

Another day, another special edition Scout. We just recently featured a Midas edition; this time, it’s a Patriot edition, which was created in commemoration of the U.S. Bicentennial. So many special editions came out that year, almost all of them with a patriotic bent. This Scout retains many of those unique cosmetic features that made it a symbol of pride and freedom, including the graphics kit down the sides and chrome rally wheels. Experts say production was quite limited, so check it out here on craigslist with an ask of $21K.

The seller cites similar information regarding production figures as to what I found, which puts total “Patriot” edition production at under 50 of those that left the assembly line with this kit installed. Of course, it’s entirely possible rogue dealers added the stripes and wheels after the fact, but this Scout sat on an Arizona ranch for 40 years, the seller feels there is no doubt the graphics have been installed for a while.

The interior is lacking carpeting, but this also helps show how incredibly dry the cabin has remained. The driver’s footwell shows virtually no sign of wear and tear, with even the factory paint still looking quite sharp. The driver’s seat reveals the kind of wear we’d expect to see on a truck that sat baking in the Arizona sun, but the seller is including the correct, matching upholstery in the sale.

The 345 V8 is paired to a 3-speed 727 Torqueflight automatic and is said to run well. New parts include brakes, battery, carburetor, and tires. The Scout looks like a great basis for a project, and the Patriot package puts it firmly in the continued preservation category. Don’t touch that paint; just clear-coat the graphics and preserve those awesome patriotic colors. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Ikey H. for the find.

Man everyone thats a patriot must have this baby. I see even stickers on bumpers and hats 🎩 on driver 😂

It could go an NFL way too.

I like it but its a lil over the top using the word patriot for name sake with this Air Force brat son from a past 23 year dad in USAF that deployed often overseas for country.

I guess maybe because i just think our direction of abandoning allies isn’t great these days 🤔. Patriot means integrity, truth, respect , loyal, honor and support of all those in need daily and being the better role model…

Okay enough patriot talk … I seriously always felt the International Scouts left the game too soon🥺 They stopped just before the big SUV craze took stage in the 80s and 90s.

Them and AMC could of made it with a lil better backing and promoting and the proverbial luck too of being in the right place and time 👀

This is a cool truck that i hope continues to be preserved…

Cool truck! Not sure that “rust free” is accurate, based on the appearance of the cargo floor. Certainly drier truck than the vast majority of these.

I was curious about the flag with the red line. Turns out it’s to commemorate fallen firefighters.
