Rarest of Rare? 1971 Jeepster Commando SC1

The Jeep Commando was produced from 1966 to 1973. It was developed by Kaiser-Jeep and production continued even after AMC bought the company in 1970. The name comes from the Willys-Overland Jeepster produced from 1948 to 1950. This example is a 1971 Jeepster Commando SC-1 was a pickup version. A total of 57,350 Jeepster Commandos (C101) vehicles were sold from 1966-1971. The seller states that there were only 300 examples of the Jeepster Commando SC-1  built making it tied with the Jeepster Hurst Edition as the rarest Jeep product. This example is located in Walla Walla, Washington and is listed for sale here on Craigslist. The asking price is $26,500 and it has only been listed for 2 days.

The Jeepster Commando was restored about 1,600 miles ago. The interior looks to be in order and the automatic transmission shifter is located on the floor between the two seats. Power steering and power brakes were added by a prior owner. The dash was also modified to fit a modern stereo but the original radio is included with the sale. The cab can be removed to make it an open air 4WD vehicle. The rear bed is covered by a black tonneau cover.

The Jeepster Commando is powered by a V6 engine that is said to be modified with a 4 barrel carburetor. If it is original, the engine is the 160 horsepower Dauntless V6 that was an option in 1971 and is the preferred engine. The engine developed 235 lb ft of torque. The seller states that the transmission is a GM Turbo Hydramatic 400. The Jeepster Commando was available in three different models: The Revival Jeepster, Commando Convertible and an open body roadster.

The seller has changed wheels and tires and says the cab top is very light and one person can remove it. The front fender is dented and bent. The seller states that the paint is original even though earlier its says that the vehicle was restored. Regardless, we appreciate T. J. bringing this rare example to our attention.

If it was that rare and valuable Dennis Collins would own it now . He scans every place a Jeep can be listed daily . I wouldn’t want to pay half the asking price for it , but that’s me and if I’m driving a Jeep , I want a CJ or a J series Buick powered pickup . A Grand National motor would wake this one up .

these do well w/very sm lift, bigger tire.
Kinda like the 1st gen too (if fora 2 WD) classy details.
Windshield drops on all 3 models but a switch from vert to wagon or 1/2 cab top is not really doable. A true dual purpose (like the other usa’ers) not an off rd that strugles on the hiway (europe/japan).
