READER AD: 1926 Chevrolet Superior K

We might just have to go take a closer look at this Chevrolet since it’s just down the road from Barn Finds HQ! Reader Rich C has owned it for a few years now, has done a ton of work to it, but is ready to move it along to a new owner. It isn’t perfect, but appears to be a nice driver quality car, especially when you consider that it’s over 90 years old! So, if you’d love to give it a good home, be sure to check out Rich’s ad via the link below and it can be viewed in Meridian, Idaho.

From Rich – This car was an original barn find from Indiana in the mid-2000s. Was sold on eBay to a gentleman in Houston Texas who used it on the weekends for weddings. Unfortunately, it was in Houston during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. It was flooded with fresh water up to the lower part of the doors. I purchased it through the insurance company who paid the owner $20K for it. I drained all of the fluids, had a local auto electric company totally rebuild all of the electrical components such as the starter, generator etc. A local automotive machine shop checked the head and replaced two valves that were worn. I have put everything back together, cleaned the interior and replaced all the fluids. Car was running in 2018 before I put it in storage. Hasn’t been started this year but shouldn’t take much to get going. All fuel has been drained from the vehicle for storage and will ship empty.

Car is very solid with no rust issues. All exterior sheet metal is original and undamaged. Interior has been redone at one time and is in very nice shape. The car appears to have been repainted a long time ago and the old paint is starting to show through. The car is still the original 6-volt system and comes with a new battery. The past owner and I have been in correspondence and he has supplied a lot of extra parts that he had in his shop. See photos. Some have not even been unwrapped yet. He also supplied the original repair manual from 1926. Since it was purchased through an insurance company it does have a rebuilt salvage title. But c’mon, back then these cars were built to take real abuse. Plus there are only 4 wires on the car and no computer!

Flood damage is never a good thing, but given its age and simplicity, it really shouldn’t be much of an issue. We would just want to make sure the frame and body are solid. They appear to be in the photos, but it’s always good to take a closer look. If we get a chance to see it in person, we will report back how it looks in person!

Flood water typically contains lots of silt, frequently of a nature similar to valve grinding compound. Simply changing fluids may never get it out of all the wheel and axle bearings, suspension joints, tie rod ends. With a little use, over time the car grinds itself to death! About 30 years ago I bought a Houston classic 1953 Rolls-Royce I later learned had flooded. Removing the door panels showed the water wouldn’t have made it up to the dashboard with the associated gauges and electrics but all the wheel bearings, transmission, differential etc failed in short order. I think this car is street rod material. You’re buying usable sheet metal only.

Nice looking car. I wonder why the seller did not get it running again in order to sell it. Would that concern you?

Good grief, a flood car, a salvage title and not a 1 owner? Quick, run as fast as you can away from this!!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 After all it is ONLY 90 years old so it should be a regular title, one owner car with a clean carfax to back it up. I’m cracking myself up tonight!
