READER AD: 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Seville Hardtop

The two-door hardtop Eldorado Seville made it’s debut in 1956, with just 3,900 being built. Given the starting price of $6,286, that’s actually quite a few cars to have been built and sold. Especially considering that in 1956 most homes cost $11k and the typical car was $2k, but it’s easy to see why someone would be willing to spend so much on one of these finned beauties! This example has been stripped of its paint for restoration but is said to run and drive as is. You can find this one in Quincy, Illinois and you can make Larry an offer via the form below!

While it’s a shame that the paint has been removed, it does give you a great view of the condition of the body. There’s surface and Larry notes that there are some small rust spots in front of and behind the rear wheel wells. It doesn’t look too serious at this point, but the sooner you get it treated and painted, the better! And as a nice bonus, much of the chrome already been replated, which is a major expense when restoring one of these.

The 356 V8 is said to be original to the car and is equipped with the correct dual-quad carburetors. Mechanically, the car is said to be in very good condition and that it drives well as is. It’s equipped with power steering, power brakes, a Wonderbar radio, and power windows. And it’s still riding on it’s Sabre wheels with decent whitewall tires.

These sure are cool cars! This one is going to need a lot of cosmetic work to reach its full potential, but it seems like it would be worth doing. You can find additional photos here on Fotki, so take a closer look at it and be sure to send Larry any questions or offers via the form below!

There’s no such thing as a ‘decent whitewall tire’…

You are welcome to your opinion. I think they are the greatest addition to the automobile, ever. Red stripes are the worst, and that’s my opinion. We are all different.

Sweet project, but for $37,500 I would want to have a button that would fold top up into the trunk.

You can’t strip the paint off a car and just leave it. Unless your in a real dry environment. In a high humidity area garaging won’t be enough, you can see on this car the rust is already advancing and all the prep work will have to start over. Why take the paint off if your not prepared to see it through to a new paint job.

I think Larry is whistling Dixie on that price! What happened to the good deals of yore?

If this car was worth restoring it would of been done already. It will not be worth anything close to what it will take to get it in number 1 condition, when you start at $37 K. IMHO.

It amazes me how many only see this as some huge old bomb, and not worth anything. I guess to some, if it isn’t a Chevy it is’t worth buying. This Eldorado Seville is WELL worth the cost of restoration given how few are left. In A-1 shape these bring over $130K+ at auction. Here again, I wish I had the money.

    The engine would be a 364, not a 356.
