READER AD: 1963 AMC Rambler Classic 550

It might not sound all that exciting at first, but this AMC Rambler Classic looks like it would be a really fun classic to have. Reader Joe V needs to find a good home for this low mileage driver and has listed it on Facebook and here on Barn Finds. It might be a 4 door, but it looks to be in fantastic shape inside and out. It’s covered just 18k miles since new, which makes it far more exciting than the typical Rambler sedan should be. You don’t see these cars much anymore, especially in nice shape, so it’s sure to be a head turner and fun conversation piece. If you’d love to have it, you can contact Joe via the link below.

Asking Price: $10,000
Location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Mileage: 18,500
Title Status: Clean

Seller’s Description: It’s a low mileage AMC with its original engine and transmission. It’s unmolested and in mint condition.

Body Condition: The body is in good shape and the paint is newer.

Mechanical Condition: The straight six runs and is low mileage. It drives and stops as it should.

Finding a low mileage specialty car is cool, but not all that surprising. Finding a low mileage budget family hauler, on the other hand, is really quite rare. These cars were simply affordable transportation when new and were typically driven until they died, so it would be really interesting to hear the full story as to how this one has survived with such low mileage! Hopefully, Joe can shed more light on the car’s full history. So, what do you think of this low mileage Classic? Does it bring back any fond memories?

If you have a classic car that needs a good home, please consider listing it for sale here on Barn Finds!

Nice. My favorite years( and ’64). This is going to be much more attractive to a younger buyer, just because it’s clean. And btw, the paint wore off the steering wheel on these the 1st year, so from what we see, it looks legit. However, I’m sorry, but I just don’t see a car like this bringing $10g’s. Not to sound redundant, but even in it’s condition, be advised, it’s still a ’63 Rambler.

Gotta agree on the price Howard. I will say it is nice to see these old Ramblers coming through here.

A Librarian special. The one in my grade school drove a base model `63 without an option on it. And it looked like it, too. Pea green with black walls. Uglier than a mud fence.

Why do people like you insist on insulting Rambler and AMC cars? Move on to the next listing.

Welcome to my world. I grew up in Milwaukee, and the Rambler, except to locals, was the butt of all jokes. To some, they are ugly ( probably what their father said too) but to AMC nuts like me, I think they’re beautifully styled cars, with mechanicals to match any other car at the time. So, negative opinions on AMC’s is pure rubbish.

Hi folks! I’m also glad to see more Ramblers up here too. Two in one week?!
That’s gotta be some kind of record!
This one reminds of the time my first wife
and I were house-sitting with an 80-year-old woman with dementia. The lady of the house owned a car very similar to
this one. Hers was maroon in color
with a tan interior. It was a top line 770
4-door with a straight six and auto tranny.
She always started the car, letting it run
for 15 minutes every day just to keep the
rhe engine loose and the seals tight. One
day, that old woman started the car with
the garage door closed! After that, we
convinced her to let me start the car and
run it as she did each day. Even after the
woman’s daughter came back from her
trip, I got the pleasure of starting that
car every day umtil she passed away in
    1981. Sadly, I didn’t get that csr, but I did a ’62 Classic 2-door instead. Traded a
gas guzzling ’73 Ford LTD for it and $100.
Still wonder what happened to that fine
old car–just like I wonder what happened
to the hubcaps on this car. If it were
possible, I’d buy it and park it under my
csrport. It would fit just fine there as
our house was built in ’64! Gotta run,
Mom’s getting the house ready for
Christmas and I need to help her.
    See ya’ soon!

I think that all Rambler/AMC cars are cool, particularly Marlins Rebels AMXs and Javelins. After all what other car could be stuck in second gear, and still beat a Cadillac?

Kenneth, that was a rare one year only body style for 62.

The 2 door Club Sedan was the only 2 door available on the standard size Rambler/Classic since the basic body was introduced in 1956.

Price just seems out of line, but then I’m an old phart and remember when these were $100 (or less!) used cars. This one does look in unusually nice condition though.

I had one just like this back in the 1980s, except gold color with factory a/c. I’ve owned numerous AMCs over the years including currently a 1973 Gremlin with factory V-8. I would never insult AMC or Rambler, but the $10k price seems way out of line to me.

I think this is a great year for Rambler but the asking price is questionable.
