READER AD: 1967 Chevrolet Impala SS 396 Convertible

Reader Larry B found one amazing storage unit find! This Impala SS 396 Convertible is the real deal, with it’s original 396 already up and running. It needs a lot of work, but how often do you come across an unrestored Convertible Impala SS396? If you’d love to have this awesome convertible, you can find it in Quincy, Illinois and you can contact Larry via the link below.

What Makes It Special? This is an all original car. Triple black. It is powered by the matching numbers 396 V8! It features an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, factory ordered bench seat with fold down middle armrest, radio, power top, front and rear bumper guards, and wheel covers. Although not a barn find, it is a storage unit find where she has set for the last 20 years.

Body Condition: The body is super straight but does have some rust issues. Needs the floor and trunk pans replaced, as well as both lower rear quarter panels.

Mechanical Condition: The engine runs well off of a gas can. The gas tank needs to be flushed out. Also needs new brakes all around.

I own a 67 caprice with a 396 and an automatic transmission!!! It’s one of my favorite driving cars!! This is a nice car but with the body work that’s needed I feel the price shouldn’t be over $10,000!! Floors, quarter panels and a repaint will not make your pocket book happy in the end!!!

That’s some car you’ve got there Larry.
Would love to have it, but it’s too rich for
my blood! Tim, I almost bought a ’67
Caprice SS from a neighbor back in ’85.
It had the 325 horse 396 paired with a T-400 automatic. The deal was nearly done
until my wife gunned it and the car swapped ends on her while test driving it.
Long story short, we wound up buying a
’74 Pinto wagon instead. My wife said the Caprice scared the crap out of her and that she would never buy a V-8 powered car ever again! She finally relented in ’87 when I put her in a ’73 Ford
Maverick sedan powered by a 235 horse
    302. That was a great little car that was
nearly fully loaded with everything but
power windows and locks. Why I traded it for an ’86 Escort wagon I’ll never know.
Hey, maybe the folks who make the show
Supernatural might buy it and use it for the show’s last season. Just imagine
Sam and Dean toolin’ around the country
slaying demons with this thing. Would be
more awesome than the hardtop they
drive now. Good luck with your sale Larry
just wish I was the buyer.

      I went through that with trying to buy a 66 Chevelle 396 4 gear full load – – – test drive scared wifey – – – my mistake at 24 years old – – tried again with a 68 Beaumont 396 auto – – – -saw the 396 and wouldn’t even get in for a drive – – she knew I’d soft pedal it.
Tried again with a 442 – – now that was easy to get her to go for a test ride because 442 she didn’t catch that – – – trip up the hwy. ended unhappily for me once again.
Then just for fun I brought home a Sunbeam Tiger – – – went for a test ride and she asked how would this be in Saskatchewan winters – – – “storing it in the winter” nope can’t afford 3 cars – – but the 69 Ford XL 500 Convert I bought without asking mysteriously became her car – – – yes I was young and stupid (at times) Oh yes the Motorcycle purchase attempt hit a brick wall.

I see some interesting period “updates” – side marker lights in the rear are ’68 pieces, and the front ones are, too, without the engine size callouts. So, what would be used on a 6 cylinder Nova or big Chevy. I wonder when they were added? A year after it sold new? Makes one wonder…
No tinted glass, not even the windshield! Factory tach and gauges, though, and an am/fm radio, plus front and rear bumper guards. Strato bench in an SS is a rarity.
Hope it can find a good home.

A 67 Impala is one impressive land yacht and IMO one of the very few cars that look even better in ‘vert form than coupe. This is one crusty example! I’m sure it can be saved but be prepared to throw massive cash at it. Love the design but it’s not how I would spend 13k.
Best of luck to the next owner!

Price has been lowered to $11,500 firm! Remember this is a numbers matching 396, has the extra rare strato bench seat and is in good running condition

That extra rare strato bench seat is even more rare with the addition of the custom brick seat cushion mod. I bet it’s very comfy.

j/k good luck with the sale.

Check the frame real good, a weak point on these. Of course you would want someone to look it over real good. Good luck to the new owner, love a 67!!

There is no way on earth this car is worth $11,000, personally, I don’t think its worth $3000, it needs every body panel, trunk pans, fender extensions, all the floors, and oh-yea BTW, the whole friggin dash board is rotted out, besides the fact the whole convertible top frame is JUNK (rotted out too). I would bet the core support is rusted, and would not be surprised if the frame of the car was rotted too. Sorry, sure its a SS396 convertible, but its just a parts car.

I see here a car with a lot of work and money that will make it one fine convertible. I don’t know what a perfectly straight one would cost, but you can bet you’ll have way more in this one to bring it to top condition. I’ve only owned one convertible and it was a money pit, still I sure would love to own a very nice 67 Buick Skylark 4 speed convertible.
