READER AD: 1978 Chevrolet Corvette With 19k Miles!

What Makes It Special? This Corvette is a Silver Anniversary Edition Corvette that is 100% stock, with no apparent modifications. The odometer states 19,178 miles, which is believed to be correct. Only 3,385 cars were equipped with the RPO Code M21 4-speed manual close-ratio transmission for 1978, and only 7,138 cars included the factory GM-Delco A/M-F/M-CB radio (RPO Code UP6). The car includes the original vinyl T-Top roof panel storage bags, some paperwork, and three iron-on Silver Anniversary patches. Additional photos of this stunning car can be viewed here on Google Photos.

Body Condition: The body is in very good condition with no rust. Tires are all matching Goodyear Eagle GT OWL’s. All 4 aluminum wheels are factory and matching. The interior is in excellent condition, and all power equipment (radio, door locks, and windows) work as they should. The CB band of the radio is untested, but A/M and F/M work. AC could use a recharge, but controls work. This generation of Corvette sometimes has issues with the parking brake shoe, and this one has an issue.

Mechanical Condition: The car starts and runs well, transmission shifts out fine. Has a valid PA inspection sticker through 9/2019.

Wow, thank a driver back in the day, a manual transmission! This could be a really fun driver with some mods and the right tires. Good price too.

I think the Goodyear Eagle GT tires look really good on this car. I agree, if it had some stuff done to the engine (nothing too crazy) to increase the power output, it would be a super fun car. Then again, it’s also a great “Starter ‘Vette” for someone looking to get into collecting ‘Vettes.

Funny, when this Corvette was new, everyone was sure the next Corvette was going to be mid engined……

This is a nice car, probably nice enough to win one of those NCRSCSI Miami Corvette Top Flight Bloomcounty etc awards.

This is proof that the trend of stocking away Corvettes is not a new thing. These get a lot of flack but this was still an impressive performing car at the time it was new. The 1968 body was 10 years old and it still managed to look good even after gaining bumpers.

Yes, it’s very clean. I believe it has won awards in the past. Beautiful car.

You believe it has won awards in the past. Sounds good, but either it has or it hasn’t. Without proof it hasn’t.

Many good features except the asking price. Too many better performing, with better features, Corvettes available in that price bracket.

You have to realize that this is a Silver Anniversary Edition, and many people are looking for this specific car. Especially with a 4-speed and 100% stock, not overdone like some of the ones you see.

High price, and yes, better performing and better features on low priced C4’s, but that doesn’t work if you want a C3.

You could probably find a better C3 choice at $19,000 also.

Not low mileage and 100% stock.

The price is actually pretty good for a low-mileage, all-original C3. The C4 wasn’t as cool as the C3, and had more electronic gizmos that have problems with age (I’ve seen them… bad Bose speakers and amplifiers, digital dash issues, and power accessories not working ad they should).

Mileage is “believed to be correct”…. uh huh.

We do have some documentation. Prior to us obtaining the car, the previous owner bought it from a classic car dealership with 18k miles, and didn’t drive it much. It’s not 119k due to the condition of the car. Very well kept and runs nicely.

This is borderline high mileage for one of these! 😀 Manual is great – L82 with manual would be ideal.

True. But 19k is low mileage for these. The manual is rare for a 1978, with not many examples leaving the factory with that option that year. It’s funny, too, because you got your choice of automatic or manual at no extra cost. Unfortunately this is the time when people were starting to buy more automatics.

Not a bad price, if the Hagerty and Corvette DNA guides can be believed.

Too bad it’s not an L82.

Yeah I know, but at least it’s a Silver Anniversary Edition. I did research the production #’s of what I know this car has. It may even have more options, but GM wasn’t putting RPO stickers on cars yet as of 1978.

All 1978’s were silver anniversary, your’s just happens to have the 2-tone silver anniversary paint. That’s it. Not really that desirable or collectible, just another nice ’78 Corvette. The 1978 Pace Car is where the market is now for a collectible ’78.

“Body Condition: The body is in very good condition with no rust.”

    Um, it’s fiberglass.

The price is high because it’s an Anniversay edition and the birdcage can rust

But it has a steel floor pan. Too bad it doesn’t have the Oyster interior. Better color combination. The L82 would be nice but the L48 is adequate. Still a nice clean car with four gears and three pedals!

My dad just bought a 78 anniversary edition for 13000. He bought it off the original owner who was unable to drive it anymore .this car is mint and only has 22000 miles on it. Thinking that price is a little high

Matty. Obviously you know nothing about Corvettes. The inner steel structure rots like crazy even if the just sits out for years. Very shoddy build quality on C3s. The windshield frames rust. The frame rusts too. Top much money even for a low mile car.

He clearly states “Body Condition: The body is in very good condition with no rust.” The body, not the inner structure, not the windshield frame, not the frame, but the Body.

No one has mentioned it but 1978 was one of the worst years for assembly quality in Vettes.

When my daughter was in elementary school a kid made fun of her hat. She said, ” it’s my hat, I like it and if you don’t like it quit looking at it.” I love this vette
. Quit with the hate for the lister, he’s one of us.

No idea what you’re talking about, but I don’t think there’s any hate. People can have their own opinions and thoughts on this car or other ’78 Corvettes.
