Reader Find: 1966 Plymouth Sport Fury

Sport Fury Convertible

From Rod K. – Located in Edson Alberta I found this 66 Sport Fury Convertible buried in a barn amongst many other projects. It had sat in this location for over two years when I found it an. We checked it over put a battery in it and it fired up within a few cranks. It took us over 3hrs to move enough junk to get the car out but it was worth it. After a very good cleaning the only thing I had to do was bleed the brakes and the car was road worthy so I drove it around for the summer. The car requires a new top, some interior work and body work but you can expect that after 50yrs. At this time I have stripped it down and sent it into the body shop to get the rust properly repaired and a fresh paint job. The plan is to let them do the body restoration over the winter and I will complete it in the spring time just in time for summer.

In my senior year in high school my best friend had one of these in red. It had 383 with a floor shifted automatic. Awesome car! Enjoy!

Ah yes, summer in Alberta. It starts on July 1st and ends 3 days later.

No argument there but it is still better when the top goes down.

Perhaps somebody could help me out. As you can imagine the rear quarter panels are bad and in need of replacement. Heard lots of horror stories about some of the replacement parts out there so I was wondering if someone has any recommendations.

Perhaps find a coupe donor car for the panels?

Time for an update. Work is progressing well on the car, it has been fully sandblasted and most components removed. Not as much rust as I had anticipated, BONUS! Most of the panels are hard to find so they need to be fabricated but I have full faith in the guys doing the work. After Xmas I intend on starting to clean and rebuild all the parts for the car.

    Looks Great!

Back in high school I had the Chrysler Newport version of your car. I should have kept it…
