Ready To Drive: 1976 Dodge Warlock Survivor

1976 Dodge Warlock

Over the past few years we have seen the popularity of classic trucks explode. Especially for old, limited edition trucks, like the Little Red Express or in this case a 1976 Dodge D100 Warlock. This seller will part with the truck for $7,500. It is located in Naugatuck, Connecticut. It does have a clean title and 84,000 miles. Thank you, Ikey H, for the tip. You can view more about this truck below and you can find the seller’s info here on Craigslist.

Powering this beast of a truck is a 360 cubic inch V8 that is connected to a 727 automatic transmission. When new, this truck had two options for a rear end, a nine and a quarter or an eight and a quarter. This truck is equipped with the nine and a quarter. According to the seller, the truck runs and drives great. One nice creature comfort installed from the factory on this truck is air conditioning, but no word is mentioned if it works.

Inside, a wonderful black vinyl interior greets you. This truck, because of the Warlock package, has bucket seats and a “Tuff” steering wheel. It complements the green exterior paint with gold pinstripes and the gold wheels, all part of that limited edition package, perfectly. The gold pinstripes carry their way inside on the dashboard. The seller does not say if that was a factory feature or done by someone at a later date. Do any of resident Mopar fans know?

The seller claims that less than 200 of these trucks were ever built. It is amazing to look at these trucks now, and wonder, what modern trucks will be desirable in the future? First-generation Ford Raptors? SRT10 Rams? The Chevy Silverado SS? Some of those already have a few years under the belt. Limited edition trucks are a hard market to decipher. But, no matter what, they will always be a great conversation starter.

Great pick up from Dodge, I thought these came with the 440. I actually like this one better than the Little Red Express,
Very sharp black interior, cool 70’s style vibe to it inside an out without the fire truck red paint and smoke stacks. Nice.
As for newer trucks as big collector items, I’ll stop with the ’93-’95 Ford F150 Lightning,, rare nowadays…..

Warlock’s had OEM installed pin stripes on the interior doors upper and lower sections, and on the dash instrument panel.

      Options were Slant 6, 318, 360, 400, and 440 (until 78). Auto or manual, and 2 or 4wd.

I think the 360 is the best engine choice and probably faster

the warlock ,you could have any engine from a slant 6 to a 440 no hemi! any transmission you wanted , we had a local hot rod school teacher who had a new warlock with a 440 with a 4 speed transmission with a shure grip rear end, the 4 gear was the car 4 gear, her dad put the 6 pack carb on it nice rig. this truck is missing the wood racks on the box! and the pin stripping on the dash was factory done you could get a warlock in dark green, black, and orange which is rare now? and they never had the wood on the box sides like the express trucks

I think, not sure tho, that the wooden stakes on the side were another option….
I also thought the Warlock was a “package”, and as such, you could have any color, any interior, and driveline package, and then add the Warlock package with the rims and pin striping..
      Sharp trucks!

Interesting info, but I keep thinking there was at least one more, was it called the Midnight Express? I remember something about a 440 powered truck, special edition too from back then, but the 360 police powered Red Express was actually quicker. Couldn’t have been any newer than ’78 as that was the last year of the fo-forty.

I bought a 1976 Dodge Warlock when I was 16 years old. Drove it off the showroom floor of Spitzer Dodge in Mayfield Heights Ohio. I still have it. It is amazing the garbage I see about the Warlock. I am thinking about selling it, but I still like looking at it in the garage. It’s not perfect but it certainly is way more original than the crap I see for sale out there. Gold wagon wheels, real wood painted bed, chrome bed steps, bucket seats, chrome bumpers front and rear, this thing was the cats behind in the day.

Finally acquiring my folks old 76 Warlock. We bought it in 79 what I was just 12 from the original owner. It was bought new in Reedsburg, WI and was used as a farm truck. It was used as our family “Truck” for years before dad decided to turn it into a show truck. Fast forward to about 2000, he got T-Boned and it was smacked up pretty good! Over the next few years it sad in his pole barn as he collected parts to resurrect it. Sadly he passed away from cancer before he could see that come to fruition. Last year I was visiting my stepmom and she sent me out to the shop to look for something, and there it was. I thought that truck was long gone. She has now asked me to take it and make it what it once was. Gathering friends and trailers and bringing it home this spring! Can’t wait to get it back on the road!
