Ready To Go! 1946 GMC Pickup

One of the things that keeps a lot of classic vehicle enthusiasts from buying a project is the fear of it not being drivable right away. This 1946 GMC pickup is ready to be enjoyed and is listed for sale here on craigslist. Thanks to Mtnwoodie for this great tip! It’s located in West Windsor, Vermont; the seller is asking $21,500.

The slightly crooked grin fits the cocky nature of this truck well. You know, how GMCs always think they are better than Chevys? The seller details that a lot of work has been done to this truck to make it a reliable and presentable driver. We’re also told that although the truck was originally delivered with a “wooden box” bed (it was used by a library for book deliveries) the bed now fitted is an original type and vintage. All metal is solid with no filler.

There is one window cracked (passenger side) and the grille has been rattle-canned silver, so it’s not perfect. But it looks darned good! Advertised as “The Truck Of Value,” the 1946 GMC brochures also boasted of “unsurpassed” ease of handling and driver comfort. I guess that’s all pretty relative, but the seller does note that the GMC starts every time without a choke.

The red pinstripe was applied for the previous owner. I think it sets off the black and green nicely!

A new gas tank was recently fitted along with other new parts in the fuel system. Of note, the gas tank area was treated with POR-15 prior to putting the new tank in. It really seems like this truck has been set up for long-term enjoyment. For example, the bed floor has been replaced with heavy diamond plate. Not original, but certainly usable and practical.

Much work has been done under the hood as well, and there are receipts for it. The electrical components are now 12 volts rather than 6. I realize the price is pretty steep, but at the same time, you are investing in your future — because I’m pretty sure this truck will outlast me! What do you think?

My question as well. I guess all it takes is one person, right?

Worth it, because idk anyone who offers the listed price. Go through a 5K rot box to get it to that condition and tell me it’s not.

That’s a precarious place for the battery, snug up against the gas tank!

Nice find. I would personally want a different color, but if my name was on the title, I could make that happen.
