Ready to Roll: 1975 Corvette Stingray

This shiny red sports car has been recently restored and has the same owner since 1976. Located in Miami, Florida, the 1975 Corvette Convertible is offered in a no reserve auction here on eBay. The car is bid to $8,900 with 2 days remaining in the auction. While many cars here on Barn Finds need work, this one is ready to roll.

The exterior appears to be painted in GM Code 76 Mille Miglia red and the black interior looks to be in excellent shape. The car has a number of nice features including air conditioning (non working), automatic transmission, power windows and rear defrost. The most exciting thing about this car is that it is the last convertible made in the C3 body style. I owned a 1980 Corvette that was converted to a convertible by ASC and just loved it.

The engine is a 350 cubic inch V8 motor that has recently been rebuilt. Unfortunately, there are no details about the rebuild so I would assume it was rebuilt close to stock specs. There were two engine options available in 1975 that were both based on the Chevrolet 350 cubic inch engine. The base L48 engine produced only 165 horsepower and the optional L82 engine delivered 205 horsepower. The VIN reveals that this car was fitted with the L48 engine from the factory. For 1975, all Corvettes were fitted with catalytic converters and used unleaded fuel only. The HEI distributor also made its debut in 1975.

Car and Driver tested an L48 powered Corvette in 1975 and reported a 0-60 time of 7.7 seconds which was surprisingly fast in comparison to most other offerings for the year. The only problem that I see with this car is that the VIN designates this car as a coupe instead of a convertible.  The VIN should be 1X67JS432337 instead of the listed 1X37JS432337. Is that an oversight or is that a problem?

At $8,900 this is a great deal! One day left, so that may change.

Looks naked without a luggage rack.

Nice car! The VIN indicates that this car left the factory as a coupe; 1Z37 is a coupe VIN and 1Z67 is a convertible VIN. Photos of the door jambs will show the absence the door guide pins unless they were added during the conversion. This car is a conversion and it appears to be nicely done. Original or not, this is a very clean car and should provide the new owner with lots of smiles per mile.

Nice catch! Someone went through a lot of effort to turn it into something that isn’t worth a lot more. They must have really wanted a convertible – I don’t blame them!

Rear bumper cap is 1976, or at least the Corvette badge is.

“This shiny red sports car has been recently restored and has the same owner since 1976” That said … how is it the A/C inop in this Vette That raises the question, what else wasn’t taken care in the so called restoration ?

I’m sorry about the typos, missing words, and other mistakes. I installed a new app that’s supposed to combat just that sort of thing. I think the app was captured and now fighting for the other side.

This is a convertible. Not a coupe turned into one. Who would go through all the trouble to install deck lid, top fit and precise locations for the top anchors? Also, if the motor was redone, why not the AC? I concur with the badges being different. I think an investigation is in order

HEI was a midyear option for the ’74 model year on some chevy v8’s & also on some big pontiac v8s & possibly other GM division v8’s.
Is that a stock vacuum advance? – ebay distributor?

Huge brake pedal. Rocker switch for ? on driver’s lower front side of console – one’s leg might activate it accidentally?
