Restoration Candidate: 1973 Plymouth Barracuda

1973 Plymouth Barracuda

There is quite a long list of things that will need to be done to this 1973 Plymouth Barracuda, but it could be worth the work. Then there is the question of will you pay the Buy It Now of $6,900 or make an offer? It is located in River Rouge, Michigan, but was originally in Georgia and purchased from Florida. It is claimed to be a numbers matching car. You can view the list of both what has been done and needs to be done here on eBay.

The engine is a numbers matching, 340 cubic inch V8 connected an automatic transmission that is from a 1974 Cuda. It is primarily parts though, with the headers, intake, and crankshaft available. They note that no pistons, rods, or other accessories come with it, except for some pulleys. Photos show the engine in stages of repair. It has power disc brakes, an 8¾ rear end, and sway bars in both the front and rear.

Inside, the seller notes that all the pieces are available, but they all need to be restored. This includes bucket seats, rear seat, floor console, door panels, steering column, dashboard, and original AM radio. Since it is hard to tell at what condition the car is in, some photos show the interior while others show none. They do note that the trunk and front footwells are in need of replacement.

Also coming with the car are two hoods, one original and one OEM. The seller recommends fitting the OEM to the car. There is a lot of bodywork that seems to be in a confusing state of repair. The listing does note what is solid or not, but it is hard to discern what needs to be done to what has been done between the listing and photos. Either way, expect the unexpected and don’t have too high of expectations, and you can turn the Cuda around.

You can buy all of the grille and trim new, but it will cost $1000 plus.

A grand for a piece of molded plastic? Sounds like the mob is behind that. See what the monetization of our hobby has done? Sometimes capitalism goes unethical. At a third of that, there would be a fair profit and a hobbyist could afford it, but at a grand, that just moves the whole thing upscale so the end user is a one percenter.

For a little more dough you could buy a clapped out Mercury Cougar XR7 featured today. At least it has most all the parts..
An engine block and some pulleys, what does that mean when they say parts are available? Can be had for more money? I’m taking all of that as not included in the initial price.
We’ve seen a lot worse for more money here, especially when it comes to Dodge/Plymouth.

Transmission is from a ‘74 Cuda! Numbers matching? It’s a parts car for sure, way too much work for the asking price.
