Restoration Ready: 1964 Riviera Garage Find

While this 1964 Buick Riviera looks a little neglected now, at one point in time it was a cherished automobile–and it could be again. The car is located in Bristol, Indiana and is listed for sale here on eBay, where the buy it now is $7,500 but the seller is inviting lower offers.

We don’t get much in the way of current pictures of the Riviera, but the seller includes two pictures here and here of what the car looked like in 1978. Honestly the current coating of dust is truly epic in spots! There’s some rust visible in that typical Riviera spot just in back of the rear wheels, but other than that the seller states there is “very little rust.” It would be nice to see the other side of the car as well (I should note the seller says in the ad more photos will be posted later).

When I say an epic coating of dust, I mean it!  Maybe this was a woodworking shop? There’s also some rust poking through on that fender lip, as well as a lot of surface rust on the rally wheel.

The interior on these can be expensive to restore, and this one will certainly need some work. The sun-based (I think) discoloration of the upholstery and what looks like mildew on some of the interior surfaces leads me to believe whomever buys this car will have to rip things out, even the parts that look good, just to get the odors out of the way. Hopefully I’m wrong. It does have factory air conditioning and power windows

So here’s the engine! Well, there is another picture showing the air conditioning compressor (which surprisingly still has belts on it). The seller tells us the engine is free, but don’t ask to wrench on it at pickup–I think they are quite correctly making sure no one thinks they can fly in, work a bit and drive it home. Under that air cleaner, assuming it’s the original engine, is a 425 cubic inch V8, rated at 340 horsepower and 465 ft-lbs of torque (thus the “Wildcat 465” moniker). I have a soft spot for these Rivieras as my Dad owned one, and they are great cruisers. Do you have a soft spot for this one?

Looks like a good wash and some air in the tires would make this nice Riviera look pretty good but we have another seller here who is too lazy to do the work. 7500 as is like that? Nope.

Hmmm, this is about an hour from my front door. And my Dad had a ’64, too. But 7500.00? I’d have to be REALLY impressed with what’s under all that dust. Must..resist…Riviera…Darn! I always wanted one of these…

Don’t know if it’s out and out water, or just condensation from storage in what looks like a non climate-controlled environment. Obviously used as a storage container (Xmas paper, etc…) I’d want to keep the Yosemite Sam doll in the backseat! (Seen in the EBay listing.)
