Restored Barn Find: 1987 Buick Grand National

We’ve noticed a sharp increase in interest for Buick Grand Nationals recently. They have always been somewhat desirable cars, they didn’t build all that many and they have considerable performance potential. That being said, prices are still all over the place, with rust buckets fetching way more than they should, clean drivers going to reasonable money and fully restored examples bringing in crazy money. This 1987 GN is one of those fully restored examples. It’s said to have been a field find that had just 18k miles when discovered back in February. The seller completely restored it, but didn’t post any photos of the completed project. You can find their ad here on eBay in Morrisville, Pennsylvania with a BIN of $59k!

I’m a bit curious why the seller didn’t include photos of the completed car, they provide photos of the entire project up until the paint stage. Perhaps they haven’t painted it yet or maybe they just forgot to post photos of it? They run a Grand National restoration business, so perhaps they are waiting to paint it until after it’s sold? Or maybe they listed it just to drum up interest for their restoration business? I can’t say for sure, but it looks like a ton of work has been done to this car.

If this car is finished, I don’t think the price is too far off, but without any photos of it completed I don’t see them getting this kind of money for it. Hagerty values a number one at $52k, so they are still a little over book value, but given the increased interest in these cars it isn’t unrealistic. And if it isn’t finished, I think they are going to have to come way down to find a home for it. It will be interesting to see if they end up relisting it with some additional photos.

I would never pay that for a restored Grand National. That is CRAZY

There’s something extremely unsettling about seeing a fantastic car like this, sitting in the snow. Although, the engine looks like something out of the Space Shuttle, I heard they were remarkably dependable, and power to boot. Personally, I’d have no use for it, but Buick had quite a racing history around this time, both NASCAR and NHRA. Probably one of the last “specialty cars” to be offered.

The price is in GNX territory. Better off waiting for a reasonably priced one.

What a way to spend $60k
I like GN in general, needs a few more years to really appreciate

You are correct the car is in final stages of restoration . If you consider the price of a unrestored grand national 20 to 30 thousand and the cost of what has and or will be done to this one the price is not bad remember people always try to talk you down . The attention to detail and knowledge of a true factory restoration that GN RESTORATION has applied to this car and the 185 thousand mile 8 owner moon roof car that sold for 39 thousand at mecum auction recently is bar none top notch . Thanks for showing it on your site .
