Roadside Sighting: Z/28 With Rusty Cragars

While out and about the other day Josh and I spotted this cool looking Camaro sitting in a cigarette strewn driveway. Someone had obviously started to sand things down before losing interest. It’s in sad shape now and is only going to deteriorate further out there, so we decided to knock on the door to see if the owner might be ready to let someone else take over. The Beware of Dog sign wasn’t going to scare us away! Unfortunately, no one answered… We might try again another day, but until then we will just have to enjoy the photo.

Out of curiosity, is that car somewhere near Portland Oregon? There was one of those that came in to a buddies wrecking yard years ago, looked just like it, same options, all faded blue. It vanished, as they sold it and I never saw it again. It was interesting because it was so straight, just faded and weather worn. Very complete car. It’s been snowing in Portland so who knows, could be that car. Sadly I don’t have a picture of it.

I’m still waiting to see if my old Cantera Camaro with a Contempo Vans installed fender flare and hatch replacement shows up on this site. I’ve seen it 5 times on area craigslists and it keeps changing hands. Only a matter of time. That thing is like a bad penny, it just keeps turning up. Maybe it’s a Camaro thing.

This one is in Boise, so it’s possible that was in Portland at one time. We haven’t had time to run back over there, but hopefully we can make it over again will the owner is there. It would be epic if they would let go of it, it would make for the perfect Barn Finds Rally Car! It might actually make more of a scene at the rally then our bullet hole Mustang did.

No comment on the car, just wanted to say that I am happy to see the classifieds are doing well and I enjoy checking them out. Thanks, Mike.

Be careful messing around with all of those Camaros guys. Someone’s going to mistake you for being hot rodders!!!

At least they started sanding things down before they lost interest. I usually lose interest before I start sanding :)

It will be interesting to see if this is for sale and for how much. Not many years ago you couldn’t give one of these away in this condition, but over the last several years they have skyrocketed ( the Z28’s at least ) this one looks solid, if rusty, if it can be bought reasonably it could be a good investment and a fun project.

The one in the pic posted has what looks to be factory T-tops. I agree with Rustytec on his comment about the popularity increase over the last several years. I am the original owner of a similar car. Over the past ten to fifteen years I was seeing more and more popularity with this generation of Camaro. They say not to far into the future this body style will be every bit as sought after and desirable as the first generation Camaro’s have been….

Model popularity is a rolling date. We don’t see many brass era cars now days, and model T’s and A’s have largely fallen out of favor except for modernized hotrod versions. I think the rolling date to be wanted typically hovers around 30 or 40 years old. The 60’s are popular nowdays, and the 70’s are creeping in as having some interesting stuff. Fight it though the older generation of car guys may, the classic import stuff is growing in popularity as well. Finding good examples of popular early 70’s sporty cars would not be a terrible investment. There are some good buys out there right now. These camaros are still cheap, if you can find ones that haven’t been killed by dirt track roundy round races.

I sold my 1979 Z28 to a friend last year that I had owned for 28 years. I had not had it on the road in 20 years but it had been oiled and kept inside. He has got it on the road now and it looks great. 350 4 speed is pale by todays standard but back then I could take most cars in the town.
