Rolled Runner: 1958 Panhard Dyna Z

Rolled Runner

We have featured a couple of these quirky little French cars before, but none have looked quite like this! The car appears to have actually been in decent shape before the roll-over incident. The seller mentions that the engine still runs and that the car turns and stops. Obviously, the body is shot, but this could be a good chance for a Panhard guy to pick up some spares for their fleet. These were actually very interesting machines when they were released. There was room for six inside, but the two-cylinder engine and low curb weight meant that it was actually very fuel efficient. The unique engineering alone makes this one worth a look. Find it here on Hemmings where the seller is asking $1,800 or best offer. It’s located in Murray, Utah and thanks goes to Mike H. for the tip!

Although this is really rough, it is better than scrap or spare parts if the belly pan is still straight. If one can be found, Devin made a fiberglass body that would fit these. With the engine hopped up with a Devin body on the pan these made some of the best 50’s-60’s SCCA small bore racers on the West Coast. If I recall correctly, the very light engine, with a roller bearing crankshaft could turn over well over 6K. The DBR-5 LeMans coupe was developed from these.

When cars go over an embankment they sometimes lift them out with a crane. It looks like that’s what happened to this one. The roof looks like post-accident damage more than a roll over.

Had one in orange and white top. everyone loved the look, like a real unit out of the movie ‘Cars’ . lol. Was pretty quick actually, the engine was a joy to roll through the gears with. Hope someone can use the vitals out of her.
very, very French. kind of unique interior. Alloy trim and bumpers polished up nice.
it is a shame it is so hurt.

I know nothing about this car but am willing to help BF friends if they need a local to check it out. Looks like it’s really close to me.

An elderly friend of my fathers has a very nice one of these sitting in his boarded up shop. Problem is the engine is all apart and he’s too old to get around to ever getting it running again. Shame this isn’t closer or it would sure be worth it simply for the parts. As someone else said, this pan with a fiberglass body would be an outstanding and rare little sport car.
