Room for Nine: 1965 Chevrolet Impala Wagon

This 1965 Chevrolet Impala wagon is described as a good project with the hard work done. The paint is said to be original and the Impala comes with a 350 paired to a Turbo transmission. There are some modest rust issues to fix and it overall needs some final sorting, but the final punchlist seems reasonable if you choose to live with the tattered original paint job. Find the Impala here on eBay with an asking price of $4,400 and the option to submit a best offer.

Thanks to Barn Finds reader local_sheriff for the find. I love the taillight treatment on this era of Impala, and it looks even better on a wagon. The paint is wet in pictures and the seller notes it’s pretty flat when dry, but that wouldn’t bother me too much – but there are some rust spots in the body which appear to have gone all the way through.

The only other area of rot is apparently in the floor where the third-row passengers sit. The interior was clearly in the process of being restored, and the seller includes photos of a reupholstered bench seat with a very attractive red/houndstooth pattern; enough extra material will be included to tackle the other seats as well. A new carpet roll is also included with the sale.

The engine is said to run well but the car will need brakes. Other loose ends include replacing the A/C hoses, but no word on whether that means the A/C will still work once new hoses are sourced. Wheels and tires are said to be new as well, and overall, this strikes me as a project the seller has lost interest in. Would you take it on for $4,400 or does it demand a lower offer?

Never was a fan of folks who wet stuff down before taking pics. Kinda makes me a tad reticent about what else they might have “glossed” over.

Cool car and room for nine some rust but that’s typical for a car this old!! Looking at the eBay pictures the upholstery on the seats first line up and it looks like it was just done!!!

It’s going to have a few nasty surprises for the new owner. I’d bet the rust is worse than it looks and some of the trim and other small parts will be expensive and hard to find.

The seller will take less, the last time he listed it, it was for $4,200 and he accepted a lower offer. At this point, there is no reason to believe he will hold out for his full asking price, winter is fast approaching, if it doesn’t sell soon he will likely own it until spring.

I love the wheels and seats. The pillar rust scares me but that’s because I don’t know how to weld. I’d crawl under it with a light and a screwdriver. Inside rockers , flooring, tailgate and surroundings and frame supports would be probed…
