Rust-Free One-Owner: 1987 Ford F-350 Crew Cab

When a mini-truck just won’t do, check out this 1987 Ford F-350 Crew Cab. This 22-footer has to be one of the nicest ones on the globe and it’s listed on eBay in San Bernardino, California. There is no reserve and the bids are just over $3,900 as I write this.

This truck almost looks like it was fully-restored or just driven off of the showroom floor, it looks like it’s in incredible condition. 1987 was the first year for the flush headlights and just needing to change the bulb instead of the whole headlight. Most of us don’t even think about that anymore, it’s been around for three decades now. Of course, now a lot of headlights are either LED or Xenon which is great for seeing, unless one is coming at you or is right behind you shining in your auto-dimming rearview mirror that never dims.

The seller says that this is a rust-free one-owner car from California and it sure looks great. I can’t imagine wielding a gigantic truck like this through city traffic but for towing a trailer or a boat it would be great. It’s hard to believe that this truck has just over 121,000 miles on it.

What a plush, velour ride. I’m betting that this is a pretty comfortable truck other than maybe riding a little more harsh than an F-150 would. Head and legroom is a no-brainer here in the front or the back. When it comes time to actually use this one as a truck, the bed/box looks good and there’s more than enough room for the minibike collection… sorry, I’m just thinking out loud here.. The seller says that there is “a fuel cell, located in the bed area that will need to be reconnected”.

This clean compartment houses Ford’s 460 cubic-inch (7.5L) V8 with 245 hp and 362 lb-ft of torque. It reportedly starts, runs, and sounds great and it sure looks clean. I can’t imagine the MPG with this truck especially in California and especially now with gas prices creeping up again. Have any of you owned a crew cab pickup? What are your thoughts on this one?

    460 cubic inches explains the need for an extra fuel cell. Gas in Toronto this week is $5.56 a U.S. gallon. You don’t have to mention creeping up to me!

      Id use this as an RV hauler,candidate the low cost of entry makes up for the fuel consumption. Folks getting only slightly better mileage in a new $50K+ pick-up or SUV, is cause for me to pause, and I see that daily on my commute into the GTA.

    I have never seen this model truck with that steering wheel. Interesting if its factory. Must have been an early 87 model year thing. Great truck

      I thought the same thing, Scott. 86 and earlier wheel on it. Ford often did some weird things year to year using up old parts.

    Very nice well kept truck, but as Rock On said you will need that fuel cell for any long distance driving especially if your towing something.

    That is a OEM steering wheel but the rim is plastic and it looks like the owner has had it professionally covered with leather or vinyl.

    I had a 97 crew cab with a 460 and a 5 speed. Never passed a gas station she didn’t want to visit!😁 But seriously, 10-11 MPG tops

    Interesting that it has an EFI badge on the front when in fact it is 4bbl.

      Boatman, 1988 was the first year that the 460 was available with fuel-injection, could this have been a late-1987 model? Although, it sure looks like a carbureted engine to me but then why the air cleaner? Throttle-body injection maybe?

        They went straight from carbs to port injection on all the truck V8s.

        It seems to me that the only EFI engine in the Ford truck line in ’87 was the 302. The 351 and 460 all ran carburetors. Not great engines in the fuel economy game but some tweaking here and there breathed some new life into them and they got better economy. Of course they probably wouldn’t pass the emission tests….

    An amazing truck I love the 1987 Ford’s. I got an 87 Bronco that have the same steering wheel. And its an very odd car for this truck in mine I got blue inside and black steering wheel.

    I’ve got two crew-cab 4×4 Ford trucks–1989 (5 sp) and 1991 (E4OD). Both are 7.3 IDI, and pretty durable.

    The 1989 has rolled-over who knows how many times, and I just use it to plow with. I ran it for 8 years on waste vegetable oil.

    The 1991 has about 75,000 miles on it, and the A/C still works fine.

    The best mileage I have ever realized on a fill-up was 16 mpg.

    Great looking truck, but lots of odd ball things. Like the EFI tag on the front and looks like a carb setup. Power windows for front passengers and manual for back. Front seat material doesn’t match the rear seat material. Nice upgrade though. Makes you wonder if it hasn’t been in an accident and repaired with a regular cab parts. I still like it though.

    My sister and her husband at the time had a blue one of these, although maybe a close to but different year. Surprisingly smooth for a 1 ton, probably due to the long wheelbase. Not that bad in city traffic, traffic parts like the Red Sea when they see you coming.

    I have a ’94 in this body style but it is 4×4 and has the 460. While it will haul about anything you definitely need both tanks and it stays thirsty. Had the same style with the 7.3 powerstroke which was much better with the fuel consumption and power. These trucks have held their value over the years.

    Oh yeah, the good old 460. I didn’t think they still made them at this time. They were kick ass in the 70s. The main choice for law enforcement, especially the State Police. Although some would argue that the 440 Magnum was.

    Man, this thing must have been waxed every other week AND garaged. Ford paint jobs from then were terrible. My ’93 Lightning had a lousy , non clear coat paint job. There were rumors of a double-secret probation recall that the customer had to know about and ask for,

    I bet it’ll go for a lot more. Lots of snipers on EBAY. I’d put my max on a snipe site and avoid competing bids.
