Sandy MacArthur’s Sparrow Two

Pre-War Style Racer

Here’s a fun little machine with some interesting history. Apparently, it was built well known racer, Sandy MacArthur. He had built his own race car back in the fifties and christened it the “Sparrow”. This thing was built later on and it looks like more like a pre-war style racer. It also used the Sparrow name though and even has a birdie hood ornament. Sandy has since passed away and his creation is being offered here on eBay with a $12,900 $9,400 starting bid.

Before Photo

Here’s what it looked like before Sandy brought this fiery wreck back to life. I’m not really sure if he built the first version of the car or even what this thing was originally based off of, but I like it!

Kent Four Cylinder

Power is provided by a Ford 1.6 liter engine. This Kent engine has been popular for racing and kit cars for many years as the seller mentions. This one may have been rebuilt, but is currently seized up. There are some nice touches here though like the Sparrow valve cover and custom headers.

Open Cockpit

Personally, I would need a little more information about the car before paying this kind of money, but it does seem promising. There appears to be some hand written notes about the build process and the ownership history makes it interesting. Besides, I can’t think of too many things more thrilling than driving an open cockpit speedster! Heck, if this is the kind of thing retired race car drivers do for fun, then it’s good enough for me. Does anyone here know more about this car?

Looks like the underpinnings of the Leslie Special, or maybe the Leslie Humble. Might be a fun beach racer!

It looks like a go kart a kid would have assembled.

Yep, we just pushed it back to the top because the seller lowered the starting bid.
