Sea Green: 1952 Studebaker Pickup

studebaker

A flipper might “see green” when they look at this lovely old truck – me, I see the beautiful Sea Green (yes, that’s the original color) lines that are just waiting to be on the road again! This truck is located in Park Rapids, Minnesota and is listed for sale here on eBay, where the opening bid is only $200 but there’s a reserve. The seller has included a lot of pictures but few words, stating that it’s partially restored and that a “box full of stuff” to continue the restoration comes with the truck. Failing health has prompted the sale. The engine is free and is the larger of the two engines offered in 1952, a 245 cubic inch 6-cylinder. The 2R line of trucks more than doubled Studebaker’s share of the domestic truck market, and they are still popular today. If you were to rescue this old truck, how far would you go with it’s refurbishment?

Studebaker trucks are the nicest looking old trucks in my opinion. Used to go to Park Rapids all the time to go fishing. Wish I would have seen this there!!

I would do mechanical repairs and maintenance but limit cosmetics to thorough cleanup and preservation to keep it a snapshot of a well-cared-for 63 year old truck. Perhaps I’d get some seat covers that are more complementary to the appearance, but age them to fit. I like the seller’s attitude on preserving the truck.

I remember these but can’t guess the last time I saw one.

I would have to bring this back to new condition. The body is in good shape. If that is only dirt on the paint it would be easy to put a shine on this truck.

I would give it a hard wash and then apply Nu Finish to see if the paint returned. Repair only the mechanics and roll it as a beautiful daily-ish driver. If I had every truck/car that I wanted then daily driver would means once every two weeks in rotation. i just noticed and like the rounded front bumper.

Looking thru the ebay pics. I just remembered that the starter is engaged by depressing the clutch pedal. Not a bad feature. Some Stude. cars had a hill holder feature also activated by the clutch pedal.Did Stude. pickups ever have that ?

if the reserve is low enough this would make someone a nice old truck. i would make it safe and use it for a work truck. nice find

Seems like a really nice truck for a project. I wouldn’t do much to it at all based on what I am seeing. I agree with Tracy that the paint may in fact be fine and just need some elbow grease to get it looking a bit more presentable, but even if it isn’t, who cares. I fear I am missing something as the lack of rust seems unlikely.

Failing health translates to “I’m sick of the project”.
Seriously, old classics are meant to be driven.
This vehicle would make a great driver, with just enough repair
to be safe. Love the patina, it should stay that way!

This is the truck (one like it) that I learned to drive in. Also the year I was born. Would love to have one, but health issues make that only a dream.
