Series 62 Sedan? 1946 Cadillac

Like all the other major automobile manufacturers, Cadillac shut down car production in early 1942 to turn their focus on the war effort (WWW2). When production resumed in late 1945, the cars were carryover 1942 models, which had been all-new in 1941 anyway. The seller doesn’t identify the model of this ’46 Cadillac, so we’ll go with a Series 62 4-door sedan. It looks to have been sitting for ages and likely needs a head-to-toe restoration. From a garage in Skagit, Washington, this old classic is available here on craigslist for $5,000. Thanks for the Caddy tip, T.J.!

After the war, most U.S. car builders wouldn’t roll out anything new until 1948-49 and Cadillac was no exception. With pent-up demand being what it was, just about anything that Detroit built in the late 1940s got gobbled up quickly. The 1946 Cadillac Series 62 used a 346 cubic inch V8 engine that was rated at 150 hp. Nine out of every 10 Cadillacs sold came with an automatic transmission, which we assume is in the seller’s car. Series 62 production in 1946 was 18,500 cars, with nearly 15,000 being sedans.

Little information is imparted about this ’46 Caddy. Given its dusty condition and flat tires, we’re guessing it’s been sitting for years, maybe even decades. Perhaps the seller is an heir to the previous owner who has since passed on, but that’s only a supposition. We’re told the car may be mostly complete and the odometer reading is 2,000 miles, but that’s probably a rollover of the counter. This grand automobile could be rare given its age and typical survival rates. We wish we knew more about this car, but there’s a lot of iron here screaming for attention.

Actually, looks pretty good, as in mostly there, and quite straight. Those flathead v8s are great… same motor was used in the Sherman Tank.

Skagit is a county in Washington about 40 miles North of Seattle I’ve sent a email to the seller telling them about this article and encouraging them to check it out

Don’t know where the writer is getting 2000 mile odometer reading from when the pictures show 951XX.
