Shortbed Survivor! 1969 Chevrolet C10

This 1969 Chevrolet C10 spent about 20 years in an Arkansas barn before it was pulled out and cleaned up. You can find it here on eBay with a current bid over $11,000. It is currently located in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and the seller believes the truck only has 69K original miles! It has been gone through and sounds like a great driver-quality ride. Take a closer look.

The truck cleaned up really well! Unfortunately, there are some dents on the roof, hood, and front passenger fender where a rafter fell on the truck. There are the typical paint issues from the original 50-year-old lacquer, but that’s to be expected. The seller indicates the truck is very solid with zero rust.

The interior looks just as good as the exterior. All the gauges and electrical systems are said to work fine, with the exception of the fuel gauge which apparently works intermittently. The glass is intact and the doors open and close “like new.” The seat cover and rubber mat are also original!

The engine is a 250 cubic inch straight six with an automatic transmission. The ad says it runs good and shifts smoothly. It also features power steering and has all-new brakes, fuel system, and tires. Overall, this truck looks like a decent one. What do you think?

As much as I prefer a V8 long bed, etc., I like this truck just the way it is. I haven’t seen too many of this generation in this color and with these particular options. Why not keep it original? “LS” and “Airbag” a another one in less than this one’s
    survivor shape?

6 cyl auto trucks aren’t too common. All 6 cyl trucks I have come across and or owned were 3 ott. The only auto trucks were v8 equipped. My brother did have a custom deluxe with a 307 and 3 ott. We swapped it for a th400 we had lying around then a 200 4r as it had a 4.10 rear axle. The offset air cleaner on this truck is usually reserved for trucks equipped with power brakes, to avoid interference with the power booster. Manual brake trucks usually had an air cleaner that sat right on top of the carb. Maybe they had one left over and just grabbed one as it was going down the line. The last 6 cyl truck I had, a 71 GMC, I picked up a power brake booster and brackets from a wrecked truck, then found an offset air cleaner online. Power brakes make the truck much more “user friendly”. Something tells me that the seller is another flipper, set to make a nice profit on his latest find. Nothing wrng with that, I guess.

Is then, this the optional oil bath air cleaner? Or was the oil bath air cleaner standard with a powerglide? Even if it had manual brakes? Someone out there will know.
Last glance at auction it was $14,000.

Sweet little truck numbers matching and certainly should get good fuel economy but I’d have to put a V-8 in such a nice truck!!

IF I wanted more power, I’d build the “buzzin half dozen” that’s already there. Straight 6s were the hot rodders go to engines for years. Many companies, such as Clifford Performance, still make high performance parts for them. I recently built one for a friends Nova. It made over 350 hp on the dyno which is plenty for a nice weather cruiser. It also cost a little more than a regular small block Chevy build. On the other hand, there’ll only be 1 other one at the local shows we attend. That one is in my own ’75 C-15. Sometimes, it’s cool to be a little different.

For a daily driver, this online 6 & Powerglide should be adequate. I’d roll it the way it is…but I hear I might be a bit of a freak lol.

Welcome to my world! I’ve been that kind of freak for 51 years today! While I’d prefer a stick behind that “buzzin half dozen”, the ‘Glide wouldn’t bother me too much. Dare to be different brothers and sisters!

I ‘m in love with this truck. Factory a/c would have been nice. I’m old and want a/c here in H town. It’s still in the 90’s here there’s only a couple months a year you don’t need a/c. I once owned a 69 long bed 307 three speed manual. It was a good truck. I could install p/steering and power brakes and after market a/c as I was ase certified in all categories but that would add extra do re mi to the cost. I’ll wait and find another.

Any NASCAR fans here? They still use the basic coil sprung rear suspension design of the light duty mid-60s-69 or so GM 1/2 tons. That’s where the term “truck arm” comes from.

    what do I think?

I think the ask is astounding…That’s what I think.
I special ordered a brand new C-10 Fleetside shortbox in ’69
with a 4bbl. 350, a TH 350 trans, gauge package, tinted glass and a optional wood bed floor. Paid two thousand five hunnert dollars ($2,500) for it I did…. My, my how the value if the Americun dollar has slid. I use’ta put hi-test in’er for about 39.9 cents a gallon as well… What HAPPENED boys?

Its a “real” truck ,back then these were used for working , not too many had A/C , let alone other refinements like carpeting, headliners , etc…

    Dirt Track Doug,
I feel your pain. I guess the reason this truck commands such big money has more to do with inflation than anything else. A new ’19 short bed, V6 I’m guessing would probably be crowding 22-25K out the door. Most of us have nightmares about the Chevelle’s, Mustang’s, Corvettes’ we sold for a song in the past. My late Father used to tell me about five cent beers. Those were his stories, these are ours.

Adjusted for inflation, you paid $17,476 for your truck and $2.73 per gallon of gas in 1969, with Federal minimum wage at $1.30.
