Same Owner 44 Years: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette

The second generation of the Chevy Corvette would enjoy a lengthy run from 1968 to 82. Between model years, the changes would sometimes be small, such as from 1968 to 1969, while others would be quite noticeable, like from 1973 to 1974 when plastic bumpers arrived. This ’69 ‘Vette has had the same owner since 1978, but the lack of some vital parts under the hood suggests it’s been idle for quite some time. From a warehouse district in Miami, Florida, this project Corvette is available here on eBay where brisk bidding has raised the ante to $10,100.

Standard equipment in the 1969 Corvette was Chevy’s 350 cubic inch V8 that produced 300 hp with a 4-barrel carburetor. Several engine options were offered which could increase the cubes to 427 and the horses to 435. The seller doesn’t mention what power plant resides in this car or if it’s even original, so we’ll assume it’s a 350 that has a 4-speed manual transmission, which was an option. Disc brakes were present on all four wheels at new, so we assume there’s been no change in that set-up in the car’s 65,000 reported miles.

Of the 38,762 Corvettes built in 1969, 16,633 of them were convertibles. This one has the removable hardtop but the drop-top hardware for the car is no longer present. Monza Red was one of the colors offered on the Corvette that year and we assume that’s the hue here, although it could have been resprayed in the past 53 years. The black interior looks mostly intact but quite dirty, suggesting that the top was not attached for much of the time this car was in storage.

So, we end up here with a rolling project that needs to be restored. In Fair condition, which this ‘Vette may be, is valued at less than $15,000 by Hagerty. But if you were whip it into shape, it could be a $45,000 cruiser. So, if the bidding doesn’t get crazy toward the end of the auction, that could $30,000 to replace missing parts and bring it back into nearly new condition. Is that doable?

Engine and radiator not sealed up, rough interior, no underside pictures, cheap wheels with truck tires, and it’s in the Miami rust bucket area. Bidding is already past what it’s probably worth. Pretty shakey deal here.

I believe this is from the third generation of Corvette, as in C3.

He owned it for 44 years. And it looks like he hated it for about 40.

This is not even a good parts car. The interior shows all the signs of being under water, at some point in it’s life. The engine bay also has indicators of submersion.
